    1. [FLHOLMES] SPEARS
    2. << Well,Im not sure,Wish I could be.My Spears, were from SC. Rebecha Spears, was the dau of William Spears.Rebecah married Arthur Rudd. Rebecha was born in 1808 in or around Barnswell,SC.She and Arthur moved too Decatur County Ga in 1830,and in 1850 they were living in Coffee County, AL. Its been told that several of Rebechas brothers and sisters followed..Im having a hard time with the Spears.Have found them in Barnswell Census, but after that its benn a rough row to hoe.It very well maybe a connection, for a lot of the SC Spears came too Ga,and Al..Wish I could be of more help.. Best Regards, Shirley >> I don't have much in my notes on Henry E. Spears b. 1881, except I found him on the 1920 Geneva Co. Census, age 38, b. AL. with wife Leavie, age 39, born AL and William age 9, b. AL. Couldn't read township (Slocomb). Both are buried at Paynes Creek Cemetery, Hardee Co., FL. Henry married a second time to Edna____? who had a sister Ida who came to live with them. Edna and Ida were from Wisconsin, I believe. The Spears are related to me through my Dad's sister Ruby, wife of William (both deceased). Ruby and William were married 68 years. I grew up with (same area) this family, calling Henry E. "Grandpa" same as my cousins. Aunt Ruby always had teacakes for me when I visited up until her death in 1996. My cousins would be interested if you do make a connection. Thanks for responding. Lucy

    2. Margie, I am descended from the WATSON's through my father and his mother. I looked at your site and first thing I noticed was the picture of Sara Catherine Megason. My husband says that if that picture was on America's Most Wanted that I would be in trouble! Since I'm not a member of MSN/Hotmail I didn't discover anything else. Could you contact me, please? 3. --WebTV-Mail-15988-53 Content-Type: Text/Plain; Charset=US-ASCII Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7Bit Shirley I don't know where to get the Book. Most of the Heritage book info i get is from my distant cousins from Al. Helen Taylor Andrews In Ozark. James Adkins in Dothan. Jean Lewis in Geneva county. And Dale Clark in Newton Al. Also from Homer Jones, Christine Grimes Thatcher, on the ALDALE Rootsweb site. The Heritage Books are not available or I can't afford to buy them. So you can see why these sites mean so much to me. Since my families were some of the early settlers. I feel related to all these people who use these sites. I grew up with some of them or my mom told me. Back then, if you married one of the family. That family became your family. You know what I mean. Say, if your distant cousin from another family called anyone Aunt and Uncle, they were our Aunt and Uncle also. Which makes it very confusing today. Believe me I had a huge family and these names are in one or the other families. My Ggrandfather and Ggrandmother Jacob and Martha Van Cloe Lamb Snell Ezell had 11 children, 7 girls and 4 boys. My grandfather Isacc J ( Jake ) and Willie Hannah Adkins Ezell had 7 boys and 1 girl. My dad Allen Wesley and Roxey Ann Clark Ezell had 7 boys and 1 girl ( Me ). My GGGgrandfather Fredrick Ezell and 2 of his sons Josiah and Parham Ezell came to Dale or one of those counties that was there at that time in the 1840's, I understand that it was Henry county all the way to the Fl line back in those days. My Clark's multiplyed and beat my Ezell's abt 10 to 1. Each one of the Clark's married several times and had a whole passle of kids. I think most of them had one or two sets of twins. My mom told us she had two sets in her family that she knew of. And she never knew how many bros and sisters she had. It was told that her father Wm. Henry Clark b. abt 1813 had been married 7 times and when one of his wifes died he sold or gave 7 of his children away. We have found 3 of her bros and two of her sisters. And i will keep searching. So to make a long story short. My book will never be finished. But it will give my grandchildren something to read if they are interested. They are already amazed at what i have found. So am I !!!!! So keep up the good work everyone. I am always listening and will jump in every so often to put my two cents worth in. Good Hunting and have a VERY HAPPY AND SAFE NEW YEAR. 2. I might also tell you that my gr gr grandmother Dykes, in Marianna, Jane,, was first cousin to her husband, James Riley Dykes, Jr, and she was a Bryan. Also, my 3 times and 4 times great grandmother Dykes were Bryans! My wife is descended from Theopolis Petty who fought in Rev War in SC and was given land in now Crenshaw Co, Al for his services. His grandson, ws my wife's great gf, Jasper Manning Petty, who is buried just across line in AL, off Hwy 27, in Vaughn - McDuffie Cem, out in a field. Her grandfther, Jasper Newton Petty is buried in middle of road at Sweet Gum Head in Holmes Co. Her dad is Alton Petty, who was born in Wesville and grew up in Panama City, but now lives in Branford, FL. He is kin to all those at Petty's Cross Roads in the New Hope Community. Will have to get back to you on the Yarbroughs. My grandmother was a Dykes, who grew up on the Bascom-Neels Landing Road in Jax Co. I know that one of the Yarbroughs was Dr Green Yarbrough, who came from SC. She was also kin to the Simmons, Tindells, and Oswalds of Jax Co. Have some Yarbrough data that I got off the internet, as well as lots of Oswald data.

    2. Liz, Sorry to barge in on this string of rememberances, I have my own also, but can you tell me when the difference in the Yon and Yohn family names? My mother's first husband was a B. J. Yohn and I have a 1/2 sister from that marriage. My mother is from just across the State Line in Geneva Co., and my father, Alcus Dukes, was born and raised in Holmes Co. and married Margaret Jane Andrews. I still have a couple of cousins in Holmes. The reason I was curious about the different spellings of Yon/Yohn is that in my research, I come acrosss both in basically the same area. If you have any insight I would love to hear from you. Your Holmes County "Cousin" - Jerry Dale Dukes.

One place we lived had a spring where the water stayed as cold as ice and mom kept the milk there when she had more than us kids could drink in a day. We even had ice delivered here after we moved to Fl. But i was lucky , My bro Richard was the ice man. That was after WW2. I still didn't have a Frig. 3. --WebTV-Mail-15119-5122 Content-Type: Text/Plain; Charset=US-ASCII Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7Bit Liz, Did you ever get to rob the hen nest for an egg to get a peppermint stick from the rolling store. If i remember correct, you could get a bundle of them real cheap. My mom always traded chickens or eggs to get material to make her and my dresses. Or use a flower sack to make mine when i was small. We never had money, but we got what we needed. The rolling store had cages hooked on the side and top of his store to hold Chickens or even pigs. He would trade for abt anything. And he always gave you a good deal. The only spanking i ever got from my daddy was pitching a fit because i had to share my candy with my bro Buford. He told me a couple years ago just before he passed away, I caused him to get all his whippings. Of course he was only kidding. If it wasn't for that old rolling store, alot of us out on those farms wouldn't have gotten the few luxuries of life we got. We could trade our live stock, vegetables which were plentiful on the farms for the things we didn't have money or time to go to the city to buy. But the rolling store could sell anything. I guess you can tell I am blessed with my memories. May you all be Blessed too.
