Liz, Thank you for responding. I read that response also, and I agree. I run into DUKE/DUKES all the time, and I know there is a common spelling there somewhere. I too have heard several reasons why there is a difference. Just can't nail any of them down as absolute truth. I suspect there is a little truth in each story. The Pelham comes from Thomas and Elizabeths daughter,Willie Mae Pelham.don't know her husbands name.Elizabeths mother is the Ann Peters buried at Galilee Meth. Church,she lived too be 105 years old.She is my g,grandmother.Her husband was Jim,(James Peters,for which I am trying to find somewhere. Macon was her son,her husband was Thomas Jefferson Brock,born 1865.They are buried in the Galilee Methadist church in Graceville..
