    1. Re: [FLHOLMES] Red Hill Cemetery
    2. Hello Angela: I am related to Zachariah (Jack) Taylor through his brother Jasper (see this diagram http://www.robinstreet.com/bonifay/genealogy/). Unfortunately I cannot confirm Effie's place of rest but I thought this might be an interesting tidbit of info you if you don't already have it. If you go to this website: http://dlis.dos.state.fl.us/barm/Pensionfiles.html Confederate pension application files for Florida soldiers are available online as pdf files (requires adobe acrobat reader plugin). Do a search for the surname Taylor. I think on around the 11-12 page of search results you will find two records for a Z. Taylor. Zachariah filed for a pension, and later on Effie filed again. Within the pension records is their marriage date, witnesses of the marriage, who married them, and information on the dates of their deaths. Thought it might interest you. Also if you have anything on the Taylor's, PLEASE PLEASE share it with me. Thanks, Wendy > > From: "Angela Williams" <williamsa@nsu.law.nova.edu> > Date: 2003/01/16 Thu PM 01:43:16 EST > To: FLHOLMES-L@rootsweb.com > Subject: [FLHOLMES] Red Hill Cemetery > > Hi > > First, I'd like to say a TREMENDOUS thanks to those who have contributed the information about Holmes County Cemeteries. Her husband, ZACK TAYLOR (I've also seen numerous records referring to him as "Jack"), is buried in Red Hill Cemetery in Holmes County. It looks like the list of folks buried in this cemetery is complete on the Holmes County webpage. However, she is not listed on it. Considering they were married for at least 50 years, it seems likely that Effie would be buried here, too. Does anyone know where Effie Woodell Taylor is buried or if she's buried at Red Hill Cemetery? 2. Hi, Ann, I believe you and I have talked along the way somewhere. The info on Jasper Sims is correct. But I do not know Sarah Ann Sims , widow of Jasper, maiden name. I did not do any research on the Sims line. My second Sims cousin did it. I was so bogged down with research from my Mothers's Pennington and Beall and Faircloth and Barentine line that I had not gotten to Dad's side so he sent me the research. But he does not have her maiden name. But since then I am sure he has done more research. I will get his e-mail. I'll let you know. Love, Barbara Sims Henderson

In my files I have Jasper Sims name as William Jasper Sims son of Isaac Sims and Rachel Wright. At this time I don't remember where I got this information. I also have that William Jasper Sims died Sept 17, 1862 at Antietam, Maryland during the Civil War. Also have that he was born in Abbeville, AL. in 1836. Is this correct information? 1. [FLHOLMES] Yates and Levins
    2. Max, Thanks for your response. The Levins have been hard for me to get my arms around. It seems like there were too many with the same first name and too many who dodged the census taker some years. My Levins ancestor was Amy Levins, who married Joshua Spence in Thomas County, GA in 1835. They made 1840 Dale Co. census living near some Levins and the 1850 Washington Co. census, again living near some Levins. Joshua Spence's father was Isaac Spence, who lived in Emanuel Co., GA in the 1820 census and Thomas Co., GA in the 1830 census. Close to him in the 1820 Emanuel Co. census were Burrel Yates and Eli Yates. In the 1860 Coffee Co. census, there was an Insel Spence with an Elizabeth Yates (17 AL) living with his family. Finally, if you look at Yates Mill Creek flowing into the Choctawhatchee River in Washington Co. at Hinson's Crossroads, there is a wide area in the creek with the name Leavins Lake. Barbara, thanks for the lead on Michael Barnes. Duke Vickrey

    3. On the 1880 census, in Geneva, Alabama, MARTHA MORGAN (nee Woodell), born around 1850,was living in the same household as her mother, MARY WOODELL. Also living with them were Martha's daughters: Mary Morgan, born around 1872 Sarah Morgan, born around 1874 Alive V. Morgan, born around 1877 Martha Morgan was listed as a widow in 1880. Does anyone know what happened to this woman or any of her daughters? Thanks!

    2. Hi, you all. I am the great-great granddaughter of Sarah Ann Sims, third wife of Levi Yates. She was Sarah Ann Sims, widow of Jasper Sims, killed in CivIL War. They had one son, thank God, James Archie Sims, Sr. He married Gadi's Yates daughter, Amy Yates. Gadi and Levi were brothers. Amy Yates Sims and James Archie Sims had son James Edward Sims, Sr. married to Laura Leavins daughter of William Jackson Leavins and Sarah Yohn. They had son Williard Allen Sims married to Mary Etta Pennington who had daughter, me. I remember Amy Yates Sims, my great-grandmother who died when I was nine. Their house still stands on road to St.johns Freewill Baptist Church. Love, Barbara Ann Sims Henderson

    3. Duke, The first Levins/Leavins/etc.. and Yates marriage I am aware of, took place between Levi Yates, s/o Gadi Yates, and Catherine "Katie" Leavins, d/o Richmond Leavins, in 1879/FL. Levi and Katie are buried at Bethel Primitive Baptist Church Cem., in Washington Co., FL. The Leavins/Levins Families of early Holmes Co., FL. are of interest to me, but not my direct line. I would, however, like to eventually have those (different/same?) family lines put together.
