When my husband, Tom, as a young boy, first came to this country from Hungary in 1947, Stanley presented himself as a cousin of Tom's father. My husband had never heard anything about this man before. Dr. Weisshaus was very kind and took my husand to his house. At the time Dr. Weisshaus had a little girl anywhere from 3 to 5 years old. My husband does not remember her first name. In studying this connection, I have found an obituary in the Tampa Tribune for Harriett, one of those five-line obituaries that says the bare facts. She had been a resident of Sun City for 7 years prior to her death, and services were held in the Bowers Funeral Home in Tampa. No survivors were listed. The Social Security death index lists both Stanley and Harriett's place of residence as Ruskin. The final check was sent to Tampa. My questions are: Where are the records for the Bowers Funeral Home, which I understand, is no longer in business? I assume the daughter married and that she was the recipient of the death benefits. What is her married name? Since they lived in Sun City, is there any chance that records might have been kept there about former residents and what are the chances of finding out from them? Is there any other possibility for an obit for Stanley someplace other than the Tampa Tribune? I thank you very much for any assistance you can give me. Thanks you so much for your reply. I had already looked at the death index. I wrote to the Clerk of Court and they replied that it would cost me $136 for each probate record. They said they would send me the docket record for some lesser amount, but it was still pretty high. The other information that you have sent me concerning the other documents is also interesting. I shall try to go to work on those. Possibly the woman is the daughter,, or maybe the men would have more information. I'll have to see if I can find telephone numbers and/or addresses for these people. Did you have any ideas about the Bowers Funeral Home? Thanks again for your reply. Pat At 07:45 AM 1/7/2003 -0500, you wrote: > Patricia, > Hope this will help you in your search.
