Author: robertkoehler_1 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.florida.counties.hillsborough/3316/mb.ashx Message Board Post: The University of South Florida Tampa campus, Special Collections Department of the library, has many Hillsborough County vital records. They are open for visitors from the public and will let you scan and/or photograph the records on file. They have scanners there in the special collections office available for public use. They have an index to Hillsborough Delayed Birth Certificate books 1 thorough 8. These records span a wide range of years. The index begins with the first applications for Delayed Birth Certificates made around 1945. These records also contain many Pasco County births. Each entry gives the county file number which can be used to obtain copies of the original application and the actual Delayed Birth Certificate from the Hillsborough Clerk of Circuit Court. Books 9 and onwards are not indexed. In addition, the Special Collections Department has all Hillsborough County marriage records from 1853 to 1964. The original records are on file 1927 and back - when I say original, I mean original signatures, original court and notary seals, etc. Those original records are one page and can be scanned. 1927 and onwards the records are transcripts of the original marriage record maintained in large books (In 1927, they began to centralize original records at the Office of Vital Statistics in Jacksonville). These books can be photographed. There is also an index of births at the Centro Asturiano Hospital, 1950-1954 and 1960-1965. These indexes include the name of child, sex, date of birth, and names and birthplaces of the parents. The Special Collections office is open to the public. You must register before given access, however, registration is free. This is an excellent resource for those researching Hillsborough county genealogy.
