Examples are: An obituary for John Michael Smith born in Horry county, South Carolina and died in Hillsborough county, FLorida. He also lived in Bibb county, Georgia. He was married to Mary Jane Ward daughter of Matthew Ward and Susan Suggs. You would post his obituary on the following boards: location boards Horry county, South Carolina Hillsborough county, Florida Bibb county, Georgia and possible even the unknown county area board for those states. Surname boards of : Smith,Suggs, Ward Start a new message post by clicking on the blue words "Begin a New Thread" which you will right right under the name of the message board. In the title of the post state clearly what the topic of information in the post will concern. Something like, "obituary of John Michael SMith b (date)SC d (date) FL" Put as much info as possible in the title to let people know "Hey I need ot read that post" Titles such as "looking for family", "looking for 3rd cousin three times removed" often remain unread by researchers with limited time. In the message window type the information you are sharing and ALWAYS give the sources if you have them. If you found the information in a library, state the name and address of the library. Give the newspaper name, date, page number, the book title, author, date of publication, ISBN number, etc. Data without a source is considered hearsay. When you are through typing the information describing the attachment (if there is one) look underneath the message window and you will see : ATTACHMENTS: Attach a file (blue letters). Click on Attach a File. That will open your browser window on your computer. Navigate to the folder containing the file you want to attach to the message. Click on BROWSE located at the end of the new box that opens. Right click on the file name. That will automatically place the file name in the upload window. Look to the right of that little window and click OPEN. Read your message and be sure it is ready to send. Click Post and it will upload the file from your computer to Rootsweb and will be placed on the message board. Just a hint. Use Notepad to compose your message. Then copy and paste it into the rootsweb window. that way if you lose your internet connection or something else goes wrong you still have your information and are not stuck having to type it all over again.
