Author: drewsmithtpa Surnames: Womble, Roberts Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.florida.counties.hillsborough/3324.3/mb.ashx Message Board Post: According to the 1900 U.S. census, Marshall Womble (a farmer) was born October 1851 in Georgia of Georgia parents, while Amanda Womble was born October 1873 in Florida of a Mississippi father and a Georgia mother. They had been married for 10 years, and Amanda had had 5 children (only 4 living). Also in the household were their 4 Florida-born children: Alice (born March 1891), Emory (born May 1894), Ruth (born October 1896), and Ogd (?) (born February 1900). In 1910, the household has added 4 more children (another daughter and 3 more sons), but Amanda is now listed as being born in Alabama of a Mississippi father and a North Carolina mother. In 1920, there is now a 6-year-old daughter Thelma. In 1930, the household is Amanda, son George, daughter Mary Roberts, grandson Fred, and living next door are 20-year-old Earl Dushong and his new wife, 17-year-old Thelma (probably Thelma Womble before she married). In the 1935 Florida state census, 62-year-old Amanda is head of household (renting the home and doing housework) shared with sons 40-year-old George (an invalid), 35-year-old Ojede (farming), 28-year-old Lewis (farming), 26-year-old Leonard (v.s. police), 33-year-old daughter Mary Roberts (farming), and 14-year-old grandson Fred Roberts (in school). Marshall Womble may be the J.M. Womble born 8 October 1861 and died 3 March 1925, buried in Bethlehem Cemetery in Plant City. Amanda Womble may be the Armanda E. Womble born 18 October 1873 and died 18 August 1949, buried in Bethlehem Cemetery in Plant City. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
