Don't beat yourself up over this misunderstanding. We have all been there done that. Sometimes when we have been researching a long time we tend to forget others might not be aware of information we need in our research. I know when I make a post I do not always put everything I have checked online especially if I am trying to locate the family itself. I have gotten some great tips/help from people over the years. I check the message boards to see if I can help and repay those kindnesses. Hopefully everyone does that sooner or later. Good luck in your search!
