Thanks to all who answered my question about the star. The star is the Eastern Star and is a ladies division of the Masonic group. At one time they were supposedly a christian group, then recognized as a pagean group because of the witch days, then a secretive group later on. The masonic group wasnt talked about much at all. The story that was just recently passed on to me is a good example of what the masonic group was like. A person was going down a street to fast and pulled over by an officer. The officer asked the person something and when the person knew the special handshake of masonic group, the officer let this person go without a ticket. So if anyone is wondering what this group was, this is just one piece of it. I have been told not to delve into finding out what the masonic group was but this was in the 1930's and have no worries about it now. take care Leslie
The Masons are still active. The organization is the inheritor of much of the Knights Templar tradition. They claim spiritual descendancy from the Masons who built Solomon Temple. Many of the early leaders of the United States were members of the organization such as George Washington and many of his aides. It was very influential in the settlement of new lands. Members helped each other establishe business and farmsteads. They kept meticulous records. The Lodge in Autauga county AL has allowed extracts of their membership records to be used for research which has helped establish death dates and years people lived in the county. Deborah Byrd
