I am searching for my half brother or sister born, probably the summer of 1956 at Tampa General Hospital, Tampa, FL. This sibling could have been born as early as Fall of 1955 or as late as Spring of 1957. Does anyone have access to adoption records, Tampa General Hospital Records, newspapers, or anything that might help? Since I have no exact birthdate, I can't join any reunion lists or anything. My mother gave her baby up for adoption because her dominating mother gave her no choice. It may have been handled through an attorney. My mother died in 1971, and everyone else that might know anything is either dead or senile. My mother's name was Thelma Amy Young, born 08/26/1937 in Jackson Twp., Shelby County, OH. She was unmarried at the time, but I have been told that the father's name was Bobby Robinson from Lima, OH. I have hired a private investigator, but he has been very little help, and, of course needs more money to get a special source. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Becky L. Stevenson

Since there have been a number of queries about Tampa Bay area obits, here are two sites which have ongoing projects to put online items like obits, articles, etc., from Tampa Bay area newspapers. The Tampa-Hillsborough Online Resource (THOR) is part of the Tampa-Hillsborough Co. Public Library site. Although the index provides only minimal info, it may be enough for you to identify relatives. If your not in the Tampa area, try using the interlibrary loan system to get copies of the promising ones. Also, if your not in the local calling area of the library, you will want to download TELNET to use THOR. The instructions, on THOR's home page, are good. Once your in THOR, select "8. Trails ..." and then "1. Quick Search ...". One other thing, THOR is a UNIX based system so your mouse is virtually useless. You will probably muck things up the first few times -- I did to point of having shut it down several times. <A HREF="http://www.angelfire.com/fl2/tbhistory/index.html">Tampa Bay History & Genealogy.</A> http://www.angelfire.com/fl2/tbhistory/index.html <A HREF="http://scfn.thpl.lib.fl.us/ ">Tampa-Hillsborough Co. The Tampa Public Library, 900 N. Ashley Drive, Tampa FL 33602, Special Collections, has the Tampa newspapers on film from the late 1800's and the obituaries are indexed on their computers. The TPL has a website. I believe it is http://scfn.thpl.lib.fl.us/thpl.htm but I am not sure. Good luck. Carole
Hi List Members: Any suggestions out there as to how I can obtain a copy of the newpaper death notices for two relatives who died in Tampa in December,1965 and April 1966 and one who died in St. Petersburg in February 1976? Are there any local libraries with genealogy rooms that provide this service? If someone is able to do this for me - I am able to do look-ups at the New York State Archives in return. The archives has birth and death records since 1880 for most of the state (New York City, Albany and Buffalo are not included in these records and 50 years must have passed since the death and 75 years since the birth for the record to be available to the public. Regards, Bill McGrath Clifton Park, NY

Searching for a cousin named Dinorah. She was the daughter of Oscar Ramirez and the granddaughter of Ana Pendad Ramirez and Antonio Ramirez. Ana would be about 80 years old now. Oscar (who may have been a step-father) moved to Tampa from Key West in the 1920's. Any help in finding my Ramirez family will be greatly appreciated. Linda
My g-grandmother lived in Hillsborough County according to the 1900 census. I know she died around 1901 but have been unable to obtain a death certificate. According to family stories, she had TB and spent time in a sanitarium. If it was in another county and she died there her death certificate would be filed with that county. Now my question... does anyone know of a sanitarium in Florida in the early 1900s. If I can find out this information maybe I can tear down this "brick wall". Thanks for your help. Janie

Hello, List: I know there are some SAFFOLDS living in Hillsborough County. It is my understanding this SAFFOLD family left Moultrie, Georgia during Reconstruction because of problems with carpetbaggers. One of the brothers was named Richard R. SAFFOLD. Although we don't yet know their connection with my husband's line, I would like very much to hear from any of the descendants.
