Im needing some one to help me find out some information at the court house dateing back to 1862, ??? My grand father was born in 11/1862 in or around Hillsbourgh co. his parents were married there , I have a copy of their marriage certicate. William H. Shepherd and Georgianna J. Heck, they had my grandpa William Morgan Shepard in 1862, we thought that william Henry Shepherd, spelled different ways, was killed in the civil war, but now we have reason to believe that he came back and remarried and had a large family. He was apparently injured and didnt remember his pervious family. Im trying to find out any thing about him, I believe that he mustered in at Ft Meade and was in the 7th inf co e. If any one is able and knows how to look things up at the court house , please get in touch with me . Joanne
MaDonna, The census records for these years are not available online in a database or collections of digital images. It is available on microfilm and there are matching indices to them. Additionally there is the 1885 Florida State Census on microfilm. In the 1880s Florida experienced growth that is only now starting to slow. Many cities incorporated in the 1880s and some counties were created. Hi MaDonna & Sue, There is a Davis Island in Tampa, Hillsborough Co., Fl.. It sits right in the middle of Tampa Bay. It has been there since 1926. It is a man made Island. Tampa General Hospital is on Davis Island. Back in the Hospitals early years it was Tampa Municipal Hospital. You might try checking out Floridas vital records Web Page at: http://vitalrec.com/fl.html Good Luck in your researching Mary Alice On Wed, 19 Jan 2000 17:36:44 -0500 "Susan Jones" <macduff@citrus.infi.net> writes: > Hi, > > The only Davis Island I was able to find was in Dixie County. Thanks everyone for the info on Davis Island. My Mother was born there in 1931. She passed away in May of 1999 and she wanted us to do our family genealogy. So I mailed off today for my Father's, birth cert. he was born in Ky. Thought I would at least get their birth records and go from there. I have some what of the family info. I think I am headed in the right direction anyway. SO, if any one is researching the BROWN's and GARLAND's from Ky or the ROWE's, WHITE's, CONWAY's from around Tampa, look me up. I am very new at the family from Tampa. Thanks again for all the help, MaDonna
Davis Island is at the north end of Hillsborough Bay which is connected to Tampa Bay, and is in Hillsborough Co. You should be able to find it on just about any map of Florida that has an enlarged map of Tampa. George

Hello Everyone-- I reside in Hillsborough County and Davis Islands is a residential area not far from downtown Tampa and near the bay. One of Tampa's oldest hospitals is located there--Tampa General Hospital. Hope this helps. I have received questions on internet courtesy and ethics, so I am on my soap box right now. I don't mean to give offense or speak to anyone in paticular. please listen, the comment is rather long. If I understand the copyright laws correctly, something written in an email is as protected under that law as something written on paper. Before sharing data received via email please check back with the sender to see if is okay to pass that data to others who were not part of the original address list. Also please don't share information about living people without their permission and don't post that information to the net without permission. Following the Census bureau rules of release of private information is a good rule of thumb. Census bureau doesn't release data less than 72 years old. Releasing private information such as year of birth, locality of birth, and parents can provide enough information on a living person to help someone steal their indentity. Indentity theft is becomming an issue and if it happens to you it will be an issue that may take years to clean up. Idenity theft occurs when someone takes your name and records and makes it their own, Usually fraud is involved and the real person is left holding/owning/owing the bag for what the thief stole. It will be hard to prove that you are not the person who purpetuated the fraud. I know of a woman in Seattle who afters two plus years is still trying to reclaim her indentity. Of course the most commonly cited sources of information for theft are the genealogy boards, mailing lists, and websites. We are such a sharing community that we frequently don't think of the common courtesy of asking permission to share data or the possible effects of free and open data sharing. Please continue to share data back and forth, that is why we are here, just be a little more thoughtful of sharing information on the living. Also think to ask your new found cousin if you can share with someone else the data they just sent. As you share information ask yourself a couple of questions 1) is the information adequately documented or not and 2) whether you are willing for the data to become set in concrete as truth if you are not sure of its veracity. Some with whom you share data that is in the "maybe possible category" will forget the attached "maybe" and make it truth. Deborah Byrd list owner

Hi, Trying to trace some of my Mother's family. Her name was Geraldine Rowe Brown b. 1931 at Davies Island Hospital at Tampa. She died 1999 in Allardt, Tn. Her mother was Irene Lavada White Zornes b. 1905 Tampa, Fl d. 1986 Trenton, Fl. Her parents are John L. White and Lavada Conway. I have no other info on them. I am assumming they were from Tampa. Mama had a brother Robert M. Rowe. he was older than Mama so he must of been born around 1928 or so. She was in Tampa all her life. Some of the family from what I hear is still down there. I have never had contact with them. So, if you know of this family let me know, Please. Thank you for any help, MaDonna Brown Roberts robertsracing74@netcommander.com
hello - i was adopted via the children's home society through tampa. i was actually born in st. joseph's hospital (not a very attractive place when i saw it years later) and then dear old mom put me up for adoption. don't know if st. joseph's had any connection to the children't home society but they may have some records. when i tried to find out about my birth mother from the local c.h.s. they finally gave me some "birth information" - physical background, etc. of my "birth parents" (which i think was about as far from correct as they could have gotten) and said that they couldn't find my mother. some months later i heard back from them and they had then supposedly found a "half brother" (who had also been adopted after spending 6 or 7 years in an orphanage) who i later met. i don't personally think there was any connection there, either. the legal records for adoptions after about 1945-46 no longer carried the "real" last name of the baby. (my brother - we were not related before birth - was also adopted but his real last name is on his adoption papers at the courthouse.) bottom line for all of this, for me, was that i simply didn't care that much about finding about about the woman who put me up for adoption. the mother and father, imperfect as they (and we) were, they did all of the caring, loving, providing, nursing, etc. etc. etc. and as far as i'm concerned ARE my "real" mother and father. julie thames howell, jax, fla surnames: THAMES and DUDLEY (NOT some long-lost "birth" name) BARLYNN22@aol.com wrote: > Sorry I didn't reply to this page, so I'll add this now. > > Greetings from Tampa, > I believe the Magdelene Precinct refers to the Lake Magdelene Area, which > is in north Tampa. For Cynthia- I don't know anything about this family, but in the phone listing we have about 40 of them. Go to anywho.com for directory. Baarb
Sorry, I do not know for sure, but that might be near Lake Magdalene, an area in NW part of the county. You might want to try the County court House - they have marriage records, and might have birth records. Also the State Archives in Tallahasee, FL have copies of most birth, marriage records from the counties in FL.
