Barbara, A resource we have here is the public library which will answer some questions online. I'm not sure if they will answer obit or funeral questions, but you can check it out online at: http://www.thpl.org/ Try behind the "Quick Answers" button. Also, our newspaper, The Tampa Tribune, may have the info you're asking for. Online you can only search back 6 months but they will search further back for you for a small fee. That site is: http://tampatrib.com/ scroll down to Customer Service/Research. You may already know about this site: http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/fl/toc/hillsborough.htm Sorry I couldn't be more helpful, good luck on your search. ..jt FLHILLSB-D-request@rootsweb.com wrote: > Subject: > > FLHILLSB-D Digest Volume 00 : Issue 85 > > Today's Topics: > #1 [FLHILLSB] Help finding death/ cem ["Barbara Tourtillott" <wpbear@mark] > > Administrivia: > To unsubscribe from FLHILLSB-D, send a message to > > FLHILLSB-D-request@rootsweb.com > > that contains in the body of the message the command > > unsubscribe > > and no other text. Thanks to all who responded to my inquiry about Duval Funeral Home. As the majority of the responses were sent to me privately, I thought I'd share some of the info I received for those that might be searching for records from there also. 1) Duval was purchased by SCI (a large corporation) - SCI also owns Hillsboro Memorial Gardens & they may have the records there. Thank you Marc 2) The Family History Center on Fletcher Ave. has a number of funeral home records and they are available for searching. Thank you Suzanne 3) The Florida Genealogical Soc. published a set of books about the cemeteries and the Tampa Public Library has a copy. Thank you Earl 4) Another funeral home may know where those records are. Thank you again Earl When I discover positively where Duval's records are, I will send that info to the list. Thanks again everyone :-) Debbi abney6@home.com researching: BISHOP, BROWN, CARLSON, MOORE, BRISTOL, GARRETT, ROBINSON, BRECKENRIDGE, FOOSE, KRICK
I don't live in Tampa but I have been told that the Family History Center on Fletcher Ave. has a number of funeral homes records and they are available for searching. This place is on my list to visit the next time I travel to Tampa. Suzanne Collins Matson
Deb, I drove by the location and Duval is definitely gone. I made a few phone calls and found that they were purchased by SCI, a large corporation. Hillsboro Memorial Gardens is owned by SCI and may have the records there. If not, they may be able to refer you the corporate office. H. M. G phone number is 813-689-8151. Deb, Duval closed their main location, a beautiful turn of the century mansion, about 5 or more years ago. The next few years they operated out of what they referred to as the "Northside Chapel", which was on the north side of Tampa. I was there a couple years ago and noticed another name added to the Duval name, but I don't remember what it was. Many, if not most, of the funeral homes in Tampa have changed hands in the past 5-6 years. Due to a corporation coming in and buying many of the larger ones, the family owned and operated homes have suffered. The few that have closed have made every attempt to have their records preserved. Duval was a family owned operation with an excellant reputation, so I'm guessing that someone has their records. I'll drive by the location tomorrow and see if there is a sign or any indication of what happened to the Northside Chapel. I also have a couple friends in the business who might be able to shed some light. I drive by the location somewhat regularly and honestly didn't notice that they were gone. Searching for any information to confirm that Nathaniel Milton Moody was appointed the "first judge" of Hillsborough County, p[17] "Pioneer Florida" by D.B.McKay. I have been unable to find any info to validate this statement. Any info about this family in the mid-late 1800's would be helpful. Thanks Billie ( whispval@netxpress.com )

Hi listers - If anyone lives in the Tampa area, could you please do a look-up for me??? I am trying to locate an obit on my g.aunt: ETHEL "CALLIE" CARLSON.
