Looking for information about Vanart Studios on 501 1/2 Franklin St. Tampa Florida. The studio was in business around 1930-1940. I have some old photos that were taken by this studio, so I am interested in finding some history about the Vanart Studio. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Bill.
Barbara, Garden of Memories/ Myrtle Hill cemetery was at one time Myrtle Hill and then that cemetery was bought out and made into the Garden of Memories/Myrtle Hill Cemetery. Its a very large cemetery. When you go there ask for this man (hopefully he still works there) a Ken Westphal. He was the gentleman that helped when I was there. This cemetery goes from 42nd street(West) to 50th street (East) and Chelsea Avenue (North) to past East Lake Avenue to the South. Its on the east side of the main highway. I have a map of the cemetery I can scan and send to you if you would like. take care Leslie B Haney wrote: > I will be doing cemetery research in Tampa soon and would like to know if anyone knows anything about, Garden of Memories Cemetery. > > Barbara > > ============================== > Join the RootsWeb WorldConnect Project: > Linking the world, one GEDCOM at a time. > http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com
I'm trying to trace a Maud Davenport who died in Stillwater, Florida but I haven't been able to locate Stillwater. I found one internet site that mentioned Hillsborough County. Does anyone have idea where Stillwater, FL is? I'd appreciate any help. Edie Kubicek
Hi Barbara, In reference to your wanting info on Garden of Memories cemetary, I have family buried there, but I know it as Garden of Memories Myrtle Hill Cemetary. I know that the cemetary is on both sides of Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. I have family in both sides actually. There is also a Mausoleum in the center portion of the cemetary where they have a big water fountain shooting out of the ground. The cemetary is really rather large. I'm not sure how many acres it actually spans, plan on spending several days there. The last time I was there to visit my grandmother's grave (Mary Lou Hargett b. May 13, 1907 d. August 1989), a few months back, the caretakers had cut alot of big branches from the tree where my grandmother's grave is under and it really ticked me off. (there's a story behind the tree). Anyway, if I can offer any assistance, let me know. I actually live relatively close to the cemetary. Sincerely, Michelle Sherman Have A Great Day! Barbara, Somebody once sent me a phone # for Garden of Memories--626-3161, plus whatever the area code is down there. If you are going there, I would surely appreciate it if you would look up something for me. Pebley was buried there 23 Sept. 1968. I would like to get any info they have about him, especially when he was disinterred and moved to St. John's Cemetery in Pensacola, FL and why. Thanks. Cynthia
I will be doing cemetery research in Tampa soon and would like to know if anyone knows anything about, Garden of Memories Cemetery. Barbara

My husband's grandfather, who died in 1928, is supposed to have been buried there according to his death certificate; however, there is no record that we've been able to find that his body is actually interred at the cemetery. There is definitely no marker for him there. i am a member of the centro, infact, the youngest i think. my husband is the vice president. The club has gotten extremely small 200 members or less. The address to reach the office is 3005 w. columbus dr, tampa, 33607 8138700559. I don't know what kind of records they have on hand but i think that the special collections at USF has some, although I don't think they are on line. this is the link to the site for the Centro Asturiano area of the collection and you can go from there to look at others. hope this helps. if i can help in any way, please let me know. all of my family are buried in either the old cemetary or the new one. coinciently, i was born at the old hospital. USF - Lib - Spccoll - Centro Asturiano - Membership Directory - Index - T

I've been wondering this myself. You might be able to connect to with someone at the downtown Tampa Museum. They might know of a contact. Could someone tell me how to get in touch with someone with the records of Centro Espanol? Also, what kind of records would they have kept, ie, membership; family; cemetary; hospital etc. Thanks Jan rvmclean@prodigy.net
I'm hoping someone can help me fill in some blanks on info regarding my husband's greatgrandfather. His name was Andre Corinth Vasquez from Spain. I have found an obit for an Andrew Vasquez with info that seems to match that received from limited family sources. He was about 28 when he died in 1916. He was married to an Ellen Ward and had at least 2 daughters, Arlina and Manuela. The Andrew Vasquez I found died about the right time frame and is buried in Woodlawn Cemetary. His marker says Recuerdos Su Hermano Jose. I found a Jose Vasquez that died in 1941. An article in the Tribune says he also was from Spain and was well known in "latin circles." It states he was survived by a wife and 2 daughters also. The story goes that Ellen left Tampa with her daughters right after Andre died and that she moved to north Florida around Jacksonville. If someone can help with with census lookup or point in a direction for more info or knows something of this family, PULEEZE get in contact with me. I seem to have hit a brick wall. Manuela died in North Carolina. Arlina might be in Atlanta area but my efforts to confirm this and contact her have not responded. You can email me directly at rvmclean@prodigy.net or at this site. Thanks so much. Jan
