As list Mom, I just wanted to pay ya'll on the back for being so well mannered. It seems that there has been an outbreak of rudeness and intolerance on a couple of the lists that belong to and those list Mom's & Dad's are having a time of it. Three things to pass on one personal, the others general. Mom and Dad are now in a full care nursing home from the assisted living place fast fall from March till now.. Dad's memories have not really moved forward from 1970's, but his past memories are really getting sharper. Sister and I were there in June and showed him and old picture, He remembered when and where it was taken and who everyone was. You might try that with your folks that are getting short term memory loss, they may now be able to remember better the old one than the new.. The others, if you have been out on vacation this summer and gathered some family history information related to the county, would you please share and donate the information to the Gen Web archives for your counties or surnames. We really don't have much documented information on the web and every little bit helps. Also a few of us have batted the idea around for a photo archive and Vetrans page. I have some in Screven who's working a format for a photo archive, but if there is anyone in Hills that might like to help with that, I'd be delighted. Also for setting up and creating a vetrans page, for those who served from the county. I seem to be running out of time for so many things if anyone would like to help design or coordinate that page please let me know. Hope all had a good weekend Deborah Byrd list mom PS Just a thought about Hills, I know that about a year ago there was a lot of traffic on the Cuban history in the county Would someone like to help with a reference page for cubano resources and perhaps a history of cubano society in the county and Ybor city? Can always be more than one person. Thanks for the help and good ideas. Deborah
In the 1900 census, it lists J.S. Clinard at Fort Brooke, at 802 Jackson Street. He is listed as an inmate. The census area is identified as 6th precinct, emergency hospital, Supervisor's district 2, Enumeration district 64, sheet number 19. It was taken on July 3, 1900. Does anybody know about this place at that time? I know nothing about this person but think he may have been an ancestor. Would this have been a prison? Was it a military institution emergency hospital? Any help with my understanding the history of this place at the time of the 1900 census is appreciated. Any help with learning about this person is appreciated as well.

I can help you with Myrtle Hill in particular and most likely L'Unione as well. Is there something or someone in particular though that you are interested in? I live in the area and could most likely get there sometime this weekend. Paul, That cemetery is a very large cemetery. You would be better off with a video tape of it. It has 45 sections to it. The pictures on the web arent very good pictures of this beautiful old cemetery(Myrtle Hill). My GGgrandfather was buried there in 1924. Hi Kathy, I had to write after I read your very kind email to Sydney Cardner. We too have many, many ancestors buried in Hillsborough. We have planned many times to make a visit "home" (actually my husbands family) but due to my health and finances we haven't made it yet. I have often thought of asking someone if they could take photos of the graves but there are so many it would be impractical. Then I read your post and a light went off! Video tapping is a fantastic idea! and I would gladly reimburse anyone who could do this for us for tapes(I could send tapes or the money for them)and postage. Please let me know if this is possible? or if anyone ,or you Kathy? , can invest the time to do this. If anyone is interested please email us at johnpatterson@hotmail.com and thanks to everyone who makes this list as great as it is! Hi Kathy, Here is the info I got from Leslie Maddocks. It is from the Hillsborough County, Florida Cemetery book 1840-1985, Vol 6, p. 292. Anything you can do would be wonderful. My Murphys were involved with the Robles at the early inception (1870s and 80s) of two schools there....Livingston Ave and Nebraska Ave. One was originally called Pleasant Hill, a private school, and one called at the beginning the Robles/Murphy School. Here is the cemetery info below. The Billings was their daughter, who died young, and the others were named Murphy. Rev. Dabney Murphy was principal of the Pleasant Hill school, and he taught Greek and Latin there also. Gee, I would love to have known that old Irishman. Again, thanks for whatever you do. Meant to say that there is a Robles elementary that is a bit off Sligh Avenue. King Highschool is on the corner of 56th St and Sligh Avenue. Sligh Avenue continues west from the highschool. Robles Elementary is not on Sligh Avenue but north of there a few blocks over. There is a cemetery off of Sligh Avenue and ... hmmm, I can't remember the cross street but it isn't a major interection ... but it certainly has more than 22 plots. This cemetery is well cared for at times and then at other times looks poorly maintained. I'm not sure though that it is called Robles; however, I'm willing to take a look. Sydney, What part of Sligh Avenue? I'm trying to picture where this is, but can't for the life of me. Sligh Ave starts at Hwy 301 and then goes west from there with several breaks in continuity. If you could give me an approximate location or some kind of cross street, I'd be happy to try and find it and get pictures for you. I might even be able to get some video shots with commentary in case the names aren't legible on the pics but I could read them in person. Let me know and I'll try and get to it in the next week or so. I homeschool my kids and this would probably make a pretty good fieldtrip in Tampa history. LOL! I have some great great grandparents buried along with two of their children in the Robles Family Cemetery on Sligh Avenue. I heard from someone that when they were there years ago it was very rundown and many stones were cracked. I was wondering if it has been fixed up any? Is it on private property? If it is accessible I would be willing to pay for costs if someone in that area could take pictures, or know if there are pictures already? I doubt I will get there myself. I heard it was once very pretty. There are only 22 people buried there of the Robles, Murphy, Bourguardez, and maybe Morris. I never like to ask someone to do anything, and when I do I always pay. It would mean a lot, though I fear I would be sad to see it now. Thanks, Sydney Cardner (the Sydney is female)
