    1. [FLHILLSB] Frederick George Olsen b 1892 Tampa, Florida
    2. Ruby Lock
    3. Can anyone give me some advise on finding further information on my grandfather . Frederick George Olsen born 11 Feb 1892, in Tampa, Florida. I have written to Florida for his birth certificate but they returned my money saying I was not entitled to it as I was not the person or the parent of . My grandfather Frederick died 28 Jul 1940 in Kimberley, East Kootney, British Columbia , Canada and I am sure his parents are both dead as well. As for the closest living relative he has two sons still living but neither of them are intrested in finding anything out. Frederick my grandfather left home at the young age of 14 and joined the Merchant Marines as a ships carpenter apprentice and ended up in England. He married my grandmother Lily Price 23 Nov 1918 in Bristol, Gloucester , England. On thier marriage certificate it stated that his father was Frederick John Olsen , deceased and that he had been born in Norway. Through stories within the family it is possible he had a ! sister but we do not know for sure or what her name was. He had mentioned a sister a few times but was very hesitate to speak of his family at all. We have no idea who his mother was. My mother was his oldest child born 1920 in Bristol. When mom was 5 years old they moved to Germany where he had inheritated a boarding house from a relative who died. We have been unable to find a copy of that will as we do not know where in Germany this was. After selling this boarding house they then moved to Canada and three more children were born here.I would be intrested in learning anything that I can concerning my grandfather and who his parents or sister were. Thank you for any help or advise anyone can give me. Ruby Lock

    1. [FLHILLSB] Off topic Monkeys in Hillsborough??
    2. Leslie Banister
    3. A Mr. Proter had a monkey farm or atleast thats what everyone called it because of the caged monkeys he had on the property. (In reality, he made most of his living selling certain liquid "items" out the back door.) One day someone gave him a baboon. Unfortunately it got loose near Crenshaw Lake Road and nearly killed his wife.

    3. You might try the Family History Center on Fletcher. They have records of many of the old Tampa Funeral Homes. Perkins born about 1809 in Geogia and his wife Sarah Toler born about 1813 in Georgia along with their daughter Sarah Perkins born about 1852 in Texas were listed in the 1860 & 1870 Hillsborough County, Florida census. 3. This will get you to the special collections homepage. I do not have a clue why they changed it. I can never find anything there now. I typed in Sunland Tribune, and it got a couple of hits. I liked it so much better the way it was set up before. It was more searchable. I find that I can not find articles that I know are there in pdf. I have found them before. I am disappointed. http://www.lib.usf.edu/spccoll/ Sydney ----- Original Message ----- From: <BettyLee130@aol.com> To: <FLHILLSB-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, March 11, 2002 7:34 AM Subject: [FLHILLSB] Tampa Tribune Weekly > Does anyone know how to access the website where I can view copies of this > newspaper for the late 1800s?
