SRPC is on NC Hwy 210 east, about a mile east of US 701; registration 10:30 AM, Program 11:00 AM, catered meal on Church grounds afterwards. SRPC disbanded in 1950's due to declining membership and has only been used since ?1980's? for the Reunion. Cousin Anabel Sloan's funeral is the only exception I can recall. All extant Church records are held by the Presbyterian Historical Society which formerly had a site in Montreat, NC until last year. SRPC documents are being or have been moved to Columbia Seminary in Decatur, GA. Alexander Cromartie's home is on NC 210, about 300 yards before you reach the Church from US 701. It is the only first American born Cromartie home still standing. The home is known as the Ham House. During the time that Sherman's troops were thought to be in the area, a ham was hidden under upstairs floor boards. The ham was forgotten. Decades later when paint would not stick to the downstairs ceiling the ham was discovered. Elizabeth Janet Black, my great aunt Bessie mentioned the possible Douglas Clan connection in her data first published in the 1930's in The William Cromartie Family booklet. FYI the Douglas Clan lost it's "certification" as a Clan; something about a hyphenated surname of surviving Clan chief family members. Edward Cromarty writes about the Douglas crests on South Ronaldsay tombstones. http://www.edwardcromarty.com/LINEAGE.htm Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I would like to attend sometime. I'm glad they finally were able to establish which clan we belonged to, as for awhile they also seemed to think it might be the Douglas. That still puzzles me as to why some of the Cromartie graves in the Orkney Islands have the Douglas Crest, a bleeding heart, while others have the Uruqhart insignia of 3 boars' heads. Maybe they were not sure even then. Cousin Robert Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. He is the middle son of John David, Sr. Bob spoke about the Cromartie sept association with the Urquhart Clan. He also spoke about the historic Scottish custom of naming children in a set order according to the names of their forebears. Does anyone know where records on Hillsborough County's Poor Farm records can be found? In the 1910 Census, the Hillsborough County Poor Farm was located in the College Hill area, Election Precinct 28. In recent weeks (April 1 & 8), Sharon Tate Moody, in her Sunday articles in the Tampa Tribune, suggested genealogical value in reviewing the poor farm records. Unfortunately her examples are for elsewhere in the country and the Family History Library is lacking as well.
