Hi List Members, I'm Sherry (Poncier) Medders, I'm the coordinator for both the Suwannee and Hardee Co FL. GenWeb sites. I'm looking for my family surnames of Poncier, Ponchier, Poucher, or anything else thats close to the Poncier name. Also looking for information on Johns, Corbitt, Walker, Dees, McMullen, and Kendrick(s) surnames all lived in Northern Florida and GA areas. Hi all, My name is Marceline, and I have the joy of living in Putnam County, LOL. I am currently the county coordinator for Columbia County (http://www.rootsweb.com/~flcolumb) and manage the FLColumb-L mailing list. My north Florida ancestors settled in the Putnam County area. I'm researching the following families: CAIL(E): John Cail came to Marion Co from Screven Co FL between 1850 and 1860. He married Frances Redding in 1845/6. There is another Caile family that settled in Gainesville and I am trying to figure out how they are related. John and Frances had the following children: California (married Crawford Sikes), Noah (married Maggie ?), Byrd, Virginia, Florida (married Andrew Sikes, Crawford's brother). BALDWIN: James and Elvey Baldwin came to FL from Columbus Co, NC. First lived in Duval Co (1850 census) then Clay (near present-day Camp Blanding) and then the Melrose area of Putnam County. Children: Leonard (married Adeline Johnson), Martha Jane Melissa (married RObert Weeks), Elvy, Narcissa, Carrie (married Allen Price) and probably others that I'm not remembering. Elvy died in 1882; James in 1884. PRICE: Laban and Sarah Price. In Putnam County by the Civil War, as he enlisted from Orange Springs. Came from Mullins, Marion County, South Carolina. Had 9 children, including James Merkison, Laban (Doc), Charles, Allen, Nathan. SIKES/SYKES: Josiah Sikes Came to FL from Randolph Co, GA by the CW as Crawford enlisted. By 1870 his children are living with a Robert Sikes, possibly Josiah's brother?? Children included Crawford, Andrew, Thomas, Sally Grace. Please don't use the list for strictly personal communication, but Tom's post included information that could help someone. If nothing else, we know where he is researching and that we can learn more from his web page. For the rest of our subscribers, let us know who you are and who you are looking for. If you have information that might help someone in their research, for now, feel free to it to the list. Who knows when someone else's answer may provide the clue that you are looking for. Shirley, This is Tom Parker, and like yourself, have many ties to the north Florida area, around Levy, and up to Dixie County,. Please stop by my site and review the surnames and indexes you may find a connection. Please keep in mind, I am new at writing HTML and the opening pages were written in DHTML which is not readable by earlier browsers. So, I am going to gave you two address one for the tree- surname page, once there the tree is readable by any browsers, but if you go to the home page you may have a problems with the text laying on top of each other. I am now trying to correct the home pages. About the tree. I have over 15000 and a lot of connection to the area in question. If you have connection to the Parker family, please note, I have been somewhat confused with this family as there appareas to have been serval Nancy Parker's, two who married brothers and one who is the mother of the brothers. I am researching several families in the immediate vicinity of Gilchrist County. My most direct Alachua County connection is the fact that my 2nd GGM Bathsheba "Bashie" Wilkinson Manning (1844-1919) is buried at Evergreen Cemetery in Gainesville with her husband James Madison Manning (1843-1910). My GGF James Henry Manning was apparently born to Bashie by a previous, probably pre-marital encounter as he married under the name James Henry Wilkinson (to Della Nettles in Baker County in 1895). For some reason, he changed his name to Manning, apparently to honor his step-father sometime after his marriage (or maybe had lived under this name previously, but was not allowed to be married under it since it wasn't his legal name, I really don't know). At any rate, this family lived around this area and Bashie apparently died in Lawtey in Bradford County, but was buried in Gainesville. Maybe they had lived there earlier and her husband was already buried there. Any further info appreciated. My other local families were mostly in Lafayette County including Wards, Bush's and Jones'. I had Hendricks in Suwanee and Union County, later Duval County and Nettles who lived in Bradford and Baker and all over north Florida. Any info on any of these families appreciated. Hi everyone, my name is Shirley Treadway and I live in Franklin, NC. I am searching for my paternal ancestors who lived in the late 1800's in and around Gilchrist, Alachua, Columbia, Levy, Lafayette and other adjoining counties, but mainly Gilchrist. These are the names: William Belton Conerly (Connerly), b. Dec. 1, 1824 place unknown, and died Nov. 11, 1883 in Alachua Co. He married on Jan. 9, 1860 Elizabeth Surrency, b. May 14, 1838 in Ware Co. GA, and d. Oct 18, 1927 in Bradford County Frances Knight, b. Sept. 24, 1875 place unknown, d. May 7, 1929 in Leesburg. Her father, JOHN KNIGHT, and her mother, name unknown. So, what I would like to know is, where did William Belton Conerly come from, and who his parents were, and John Knight and his wife - I know nothing but his name. His daughter Frances was my grandmother, and they must have lived in and around those counties mentioned, because she and my grandfather had 9 children, all born in Gilchrist and Alachua. If you know any "old-timers" in the Ft. White, Bradford, or Bell area, ask they if they every knew a John Knight? It's Jim again... I am also looking for information on Harvey Monroe NORWOOD b. 22 June 1871 in SC and Cornelia Matilda CROUCH b. 16 May 1871 in Saluda, SC. They ended up in Alton, Lafayette Co., FL around 1900. Harvey and his sons worked in the sawmill at ALton. I have the CROUCH line back about 4 generations in SC, but I have hit a brick wall with Harvey's family. Any clues at all would be appreciated. Looking for any information on the following line who was listed in the 1850 Dooly Co., GA census and the 1860 Alachua Co., FL census. Age is listed as 41 in 1850 and 50 in 1860. Both censuses list his birthplace as SC. His wife is listed as Elizabeth, her birthplace is listed as GA in 1850 and NC in 1860. Their son Alfred's death certificate lists his father as Bill HODGE b. GA and his mother as Betsey HUMPHREY b. GA. Living next door to them in the Dooly Co. census is Pernilia HUMPHREY.
