Hi, I am searching for the family of Angeline and Nettie Edna DOWNING. They were both born in the late 1870-80's in north central FL. Any help would be appreciated. They are my husband Grandmothers. One sister married Nathan BRIDGES and the other married John H. BLACKWELDER. His mother and father were first cousins. Of course that does cut down on the number of families I have to track ;-D! Ok List... Here it is. The preliminary text version of the 1860 Alachua County Census. It is a large file. I left it together as one file so that once you have the page loaded, you can use the "find in page function" of your browser to search the entire census. This is what I would like for you to do for me.... If you recognize a family, send me a little information on that family. An example would be on Page 62, line 23 is listed William HODGE. I am a descendant of William HODGE and I know that he was in the Dooly Co., Ga census in 1850. I have one of his son's death certificate which lists Elizabeth's maiden name as HUMPHREY. I will add this information to an HTML version of this census to be linked to the Gilchrist and Alachua County FLGenWeb Pages. I am looking for information on Edward and Julia Chisholm originally from South Carolina, they migrated to Gainesville, Florida. Edward was born 1814 and Julia was born 1823. They were probably slaves they were in Florida in 1855 because my great greened father Thomas Chisholm was born in Florida in that year. They were not listed in the 1860 census so I assume that they were property of someone.Juila and Edward children were: Thomas born 1855, Henry born 1857, Taylor born 1860, Alexander, and John W. Thomas Chisholm had ten children: Arnette (my grandfather) Edward and Heneritta Rosa Beside Clarence Corinne Mary Delia Celebes I am looking for any living relatives, any information about this Chisholm family. also listed With my great grand parents were dully Chisholm and his family, Napoleon, Butler, Thompson,Bimus, Saul Jack Blake. Hi list.... I replaced the image of page 1 with the image of page 2. When I finish transcribing the 1860 Alachua County Census, I will put it online in text format temporarily. When I get it online, I would like for you to check it out and let me know if you find family and if you would like to add any notes to the census. I am on page 72 of 96, so I do have a ways to go. On another note... I checked the 1860 Alachua County Slave Schedule. Would you believe that Alachua County filled up 37 pages? There were 4,485 men, women and children in bondage in Alachua County in 1860. In the microform section of Library West, University of Florida are most of the Florida Censuses and Slave Schedules as well as the censuses for most nearby states. There are no indexes or soundexes only the census film. Where can I obtain an Agricultural census or Slave Census index for Suwannee county? I'm trying to find data on my great-great grandparents of Live Oak: Hamilton Polite born in 1840's, died in 1943 (103!). I know alot about his descendants names, and I found his name listed in the 1870 census index, and have ordered the census microfilm. I want to find out about any siblings, his owner's name, etc. Andrew Jones. I know NOTHING about his dob or death, or siblings- just his wife and children's names. Amanda Jones (wife of Andrew). Little known, don't know about her maiden name or family. All these were from Live Oak, Florida, in Suwannee County. I have absolutely NO information about the family of one of my grandmothers, whose family is from Lake City, FL (Columbia county). Her maiden name is Cercy. I''ve been told there were Cercys buried in Clay county. How do go about finding out all their names? Where can I obtain an Agricultural census or Slave Census index for Columbia county? Or since Suwannee was said to have been formed from Columbia, should I look at Suwannee's county info as well? Thanks. Betty
