This problem is far greater than just simply the lines we have indicated in the two reports. Many collateral lines have used these works, unaware the frauds exist, and is a situation all family researchers must become aware of. There are over One Hundred and Twenty family "genealogies" listed that have been corrupted by one man alone. New ones are showing up daily.. Page 438-439 Know all men by these presents, that I Samuel Worthington of the Santa Fee Mineral springs Columbia County Florida, being justly indebted to Stephen Fagan of Newnansville Alachua County in the Territory Aforesaid in the sum of Four hundred and fifty Dollars, upon a promissory Note made by me for the Sum of $440 payable to Hickman & Dexter a bearer on the 31st May 1840 with 35 Dollars 12 1/2 Cents endorsed thereon 26th May 1841, which said promissory Note was lost, and at the December Term of the Superior Court of Alachua County established in favor of James Burnett and by him transferred to the said Stephen Fagan, have for the purpose of Securing payment of said debt granted, Bargained, sold and Mortgaged, and by these presents do grant, bargain, Sell and Mortgage unto the said Stephen Fagan, all my stock of Cattle, being about Seventy five head of Cows and calves now mostly in Columbia County, but some of said stock in Alachua County; To have and to hold all the said Stock of Cows and calves unto the said Stephen Fagan his executors Administrators and Assigns, to his and their sole use forever. Whereas at the March Term of the County Court in the year AD 1840 It was ordered by said Court, that the Town Commissioner be Authorized and required to make titles to Mary Ann Garrason to Lot No. 5 in block No. 3 Range No. 2, the one she now resides on, without paying any Consideration Money for the same. Therefore know ye, that I the said John J. Not sure of the hours...... but...... they were open on Tuesdays and Thursdays.... usual business hours, except no one is there during lunch...... very friendly and helpful ladies were there when I went by in early December. They will go over to the court house with you to show you how to look things up if you are unfamiliar with the procedures...... and they have several family files. They are greatful for any files you would care to contribute to the archives..... anything you can let them copy for their records can be a help to the next person coming in... Another great place is in Homerville, Ga. just north of Jasper, Fla....... the Huxford Museum. Also a very friendly and helpful place. LOTS and LOTS of information on families from south Georgia and north Florida..... Dee
