Is anyone connected to the NATHAN SHELFER or Stephen BROWNING? Does anyone know if there are family papers which might include sales of slaves? In 1870 census Luke BROWNING (age 60) is next door to Charles BROWNING (age about 30). About 1855 in Stephen BROWNING's will there is a slave Luke age about 45. There is also a Simon and a Lewis BROWNING, names which appear in the 1870 census, but much younger than the Will indicated. The marriages of Gadsden County list Charles marrying a Maria(h) SHELFER. Luke, Lewis, Louis and Simon are also listed in the marriages, and Luke and Lewis marry SHELFER women too. In 1902 Eustace B. SHELFER sells land to Simon BROWNING, Charles's son. Charles is buried on the land in 1904, in the family plot.
