Dot: Just got the copy of the original deed for Solomon and Sarah's sale of 100a to Wm Harvey. This was the same land that Stephen, Solomon's father, had purchased in 1802. Both deeds referr to the same original land grant. It is reasonable to assume that this is the 100a that Solomon got at his marrage. The sale deed also describes Stephen as bordering to the south and the west, so this 100 a had been the corner of Stephen's plantation. Sarah signed her dower with her mark "x". My Solomon of Gadsden County, FL sold a tract of land in 1858, and HIS wife Sarah was alive at the time. I need to get this sale deed to see if THIS Sarah also signs with a mark. Also need to look at the original 1850 and 1860 Gadsden County Census in detail to see if Sarah is listed as unable to read or write (my census notes do not have this info). Merry Christmas, Stay in touch. Scott I got the 1852 Land Patent for Solomon in Gadsden County, but it has no signature of Solomon, as I had been lead to believe. Too bad. IF old Solomon came from NC (as the referrence I found suggests) to Barnwell Distr, SC, c1784, did Sarah's family (whoever they were) come later (post 1800)? Could she have been an Overstreet? Do we know where the Overstreet girls who married William and other Owens were born?
