My g-g-grandmother, Elizabeth J. King Moore Speer, was a school teacher at the Concord School in Concord, Gadsden Co, FL about 1860. My g-grandmother, Sarah Jane (Sallie Ann) Moore Alderman McElvy, attended the Shelfer School located about two miles southeast of Havana, Gadsden Co, FL on State Road 153. My g-g-grandfather, Abner Chester, was a Trustee at Scotts Mill and his son, Samuel Chesrer, was a school teacher there. I don't know where Scotts Mill is, but I assume it was in or near Concord where they lived. My aunt, Ina Rosemond Chester Watson, took special courses in Quincy, Gadsden Co, FL to obtain her teacher's certificate, but she taught in Woodville, Wakulla Co, FL. It was about 1920 when she took the courses. The above are only a few of many who were involved in the Florida education systen and most of my ancestors and family attended the Gadsden Co, FL schools. I attended Havana School in Havana, Gadsden Co, FL between 1946-1958. I am especiall interested in the Concord School in Concord, Gadsden Co, FL where my mother, Jane R. Chester Yon attended between the years of 1924-1934. I hope I'm not imposing, but any information that you can provide me with regarding these people and/or the Florida education system would be greatly appreciated. I will be happy to pay for any costs involved. Please forgive me for being long-winded. Genealogy causes that. Thanks! I come across the terms "Normals" and "School for Normals" but yet I can't find "Normal" defined. A Normal seems to be a black (or non-white) person who was not deaf, dumb or blind. Have you ever come across this term or a definition?
