I spent a couple of days in Gadsden County last week -- hurriedly walking through Hillcrest Cemetery in Quincey and Providence in Greensboro. I did find some information on my family. I am requesting replies from anyone who may have known my great uncle Francis Marion Wells (CSA participant in the Battle of Natural Bridge -- Woodland, Florida) or his descendants. My uncle preached in churches in Gadsden and possibly nearby counties (perhaps as late as 1920s). I understand his son (Junior) did the same thing. A combined grave at Hillcrest of William Wells and Willie Wells (1949 -- according to a bronze plaque on the site) is also of interest to us. Francis Marion had a brother William (also my great uncle), and old letters seem to indicate William lived near Francis. Would there be records or personal knowledge among area archives or list members that would reveal more about these two persons? I am seeking living descendants. Our ultimate search is the name of F.M. Wells Sr.'s father who lived in Lowndes County Georgia (Valdosta). Some family surnames connected to this family are Stewart, Bowen, Santerfeit, Touchton (variations of spelling) and Rudd. The name Rudd appeared in both of the cemeteries I toured. Also, we are seeking more information on a connection between the names Glover and Wells -- the name Glover was also observed at Hillcrest. Do any of the list members know if records are kept on those in the two cemeteries mentioned? Are there Providence church members on the list? If so, does your congregation keep old records. I understand my great uncle preached there. He also lived in Telogia -- perhaps a church there would have members who would remember the family. Any small amount of data would be appreciated. Thank you. Martha Wells Black
