    1. [FLGADSDE] Solomon Owens SC/FL
    2. Have not gotten copies of the 1858 deed of the sale by Solomon Owens of land in Gadsden County, FL, but am told by parties searching/copying that Sarah was not a party to this transaction, i.e. she didn't sign/mark anything. Rats. What about the tax lists/censuses you mentioned for Barnwell? How frequent were these taken, and how complete is the extant collection of these records? If we can show Solomon Owens after 1819 listed each year until about 1826/1828 then we have a clue, not proof, that the younger Solomon left. Also might there be a Joshua Owens listed? What age would be the beginning age at which one would be included in the tax list? Any more about Stephen W.Owens going to Gadsden County, FL? I think a key piece of evidence is the sworn statement by Lafayette Solomon Owens, youngest son of Solomon of Gadsden, make in 1895 for his sister Annie Elizabeth Owens Blount's application for widow's military pension: That Annie's husband, Charles Blount, Solomon's son-in-law, came to Gadsden County in the 1830's (Charles was born in West Beaufort District, SC in 1814), i.e., when he " was 18-25 years old," and first stayed with Solomon in his house. Since Solomon-Stephen-Solomon Owens all lived near the southern border of Barnwell Distr adjoining Beaufort Distrct, they would have known and had considerable contact with folks in the adjacent district (haveing lived near a county line myself). Also, Charles Blount came from SC "with some of my (Lafayette's) father's (Solomon's) people." This is undoubtably a referrence to members of Solomon's family migrating from SC to Gadsden County, FL in the 1830's. And a Stephen W.Owens appears in the records of Gadsden County after this time, until the late 1840's, including voting in the 1845 election (first statewide election in the State of Florida). Stephen unfortunately does not appear in the 1850 Census. I suspect that the "other" Solomon in Barnwell in the 1840's was a descendent of Thomas Owens. This Solomon's wife was Elizabeth who evidently remarried shortly after Solomon died in the early 1850's. I feel that Thomas and old Solomon were likely brothers, seeing how they came to Barnwell almost simultaneously in 1784. What about researching Craven County, NC records for the Solomon who is there in 1769? Land records would be good, of course, especially if they are accompanied by a dower statement by Solomon's wife. Need to look for Margaret. Have been in touch with a branch of (FL) Solomon's line, through John Miles Owens, who have some difference in arrangement of this branch than what I had been told before. They also feel some connection to an imigrant ancestor but need to see their line and proof. They DO have an old family Bible which lists my GGgrandfather James G. Owens as a son of Solomon, the only DIRECT evidence of this fact I have found/heard of. I am supposed to be getting copies of this Bible and outlines of their family line. Look forward to hearing back. Scott Owens
