Subj: March 2000 Site of the Month Award Date: 03/15/2000 6:09:49 PM Eastern Standard Time From: UnkHiram To: BettyMaeS@aol.com Adventures in Genealogy: Site of the Month Award for March 2000 The site I wanna bring to yall's attention this month is the Jackson County, Florida GenWeb Project http://members.aol.com/BettyMaeS/index.html. This site is not only head and shoulders above most county sites but it should make some of the Professionals out their take a pay cut. Not only is in wide ranging in the Genealogical information that it shares but it is also arranged in an intelligent and easily used format. Straight forward no fancy bells and whistles, or to put it another way Elegant in its simplicity and scope. Now lets get down to the basic questions we have to ask about any page we use: 1) What kind of Page is it? It's a County Genealogical Pages. It brings together scads of information and links helpful to anyone with Jackson County Roots. 2) Is the Page Current? Yes, I scanned several times in the last few weeks and noticed something new everytime. I am not sure if that is because they are adding material on a daily basis or if because there is such a wealth of material you cannot take it all in on one setting. 3) Does the Page offer a wide selection? Yes, They Offer links to cemeteries, churches, information on vital records, court houses and family histories among other subjects. It is obvious that a great deal of time and effort has gone into this page and the research it shares. 4) Does it have an easily understood format? Yes, a straight forward approach. Items are listed one after another on the page. 5) How fast does it load? The page does tend to load a little on the slow side but I suspect this is because there is so much material on this single page. 6) What sets this site apart from all the others? There are several solid reasons to use this page. The research presented is current and comprehensive. It is obvious that more than one very good researcher has devoted time to the information shared about this county. 7) Is the site pure Genealogy? Yes, although it does list some historical sites they are genealogical in nature. Now for the Downside: There is no real downside to this site other than the fact that it loads a little on the slow side. Overall I would strongly recommend this page and present it with the March 2000 Site of the Month award. Congratulations Jackson County, Florida.
