I recently got the transcription of the Florida Militia Muster rolls for the Seminole War for those companies in which any Owens served. Those who served with my GGgrandfather James G. Owens included: Joshua Owens, Stephen Owens, Wesley S. Owens, Wiley Owens, and John Owens. Interesting among the privates were not only Charles Blount, but John Blount, Reding Blount, and James Blount. For those not familiar, Charles Blount married James G. Owens's sister Annie Elizabeth Owens, the last child of Solomon and Sarah Owens born in SC. Must get the Compiled Service Records from NARA for these gents, as well as bounty land warrent applications and any pensions. I believe that Wesley S. Owens was the second son of Solomon and Sarah Owens, born c1822-1824 SC. I think that the Joshua and Stephen were Solomon's younger brothers. I think that Wiley may be a mis-transcription of Wesley. Do not know who John is. Further archival evidence has come in. I received from the Deed Recorder of Craven County, NC, a deed from 1775 describing the transferr of 200 acres from one Solomon Owens to Jacob Blount for settlement of various specified debts owed to said Blount. (Interesting Blount connection here as well) Solomon had obtained this tract by patent in 1770. There is no mention of a wife with dowery rights (NUTS!!!). Solomon was listed in the 1769 Census of Craven County, NC. Don't know if this could be old Solomon who came to Barnwell Dist, SC, when he purchased 100 acres by patent in 1784, the father of Stephen Owens and grandfather of (I think) my Solomon Owens who came to Gadsden County, FL. Wonder if there are other deeds in colonial NC that mention Solomon Owens? Can anybody find out? Am working on the premise that Etherdred and Solomon may have been brothers. Etheldred was born in Edgecomb County, NC. Haven't looked there yet. Scott
