    3. Does anyone remember the precise location of the theaters in Pensacola on Palafox street during the 50's and 60's? I remember the FLORIDA, REX, ISIS, and SAENGER. Which one was directly across the street from the San Carlos hotel. Was it the Rex or the Isis? Or is my memory so bad it was neither? Care to jump in here, Evan? John Jernigan

    3. John, My husband is a veteran of Saturday mornings at the Isis watching Flash Gordon. He says the Isis was on Palafox and Garden right across from the San Carlos Hotel. The Rex, he believes, was 1/2 block north on the same side of the street as the Isis. 3. Hey, John---good to hear from you! Yes, the Isis/Rex were among my favorites in the late 50's--- the reason I remember is the fact that we paid 39c for a triple feature, usually horror movies, PLUS one of the action series "shorts" that prefaced the regular runs. The ISIS was just one or two addresses north of Garden, on Palafox. And I was trying to remember, did the ISIS replace the Rex, or did the REX replace the ISIS?? I DON'T think they were BOTH there TOGETHER!!! The Saenger is, of course, still there. And the Florida was about mid-block, I think, between Gregory and Wright Streets, on the east side of Palafox---near the old P.O. building and the Brass Lantern, if my brain is still intact!! I was an ol' Navy Point teenager, man---going downtown was a big trip of the day for us Warrington nerds!!! ;=) However, since my brain could ALWAYS be getting frazzled, I always defer to the Pensacola City Directories---we were just looking for the exact address of the old Walgreens that other day, and I had to hike down to the library on Gregory St to get the exact address, ya know!! Are you able to do that, or do you need me to go down there for you? Or do you want me to meet you down there----I'm retired now---I should have LOADS of time on my hands, but I don't for some reason. ;=) Let me know, sir! Nice to hear from you again. I'm living out in Gonzalez now--in the phone book. It's 968-4041 if you need. P.S. Don't even go there, Sheila, I know you've got SOMETHING to say!! Class of '58, PHS! 50th Reunion will be here before we know it!! ----- Original Message ----- From: "John C. Jernigan" <heritage
