This tends to DISPEL family lore about DIEGO being born in SCOTLAND or IRELAND as was listed in other family records. So, this supports Jim Byrne's theory about the travel to the UK would have been unlikely. (Thanks for your help.) Today, received 2 Baptismal Certificates for sons of DIEGO MCAVOY (MCVOY). 1st was for eldest son, DIEGO MCVOY,Jr. who later became a prominent medical doctor in MOBILE. He was born Dec 9, 1807 according to the certificate. He was baptised at THE OLD CATHEDRAL OF IMMACULATE CONCEPTION in MOBILE on Jan 9, 1809. The surname is spelled MCAVOY and the granparents are listed as ISABEL MILON and JOHN MCAVOY (the way it is written, I would "assume" they were still living at this time.) The maternal grandparents are listed as JOSEPH BOUZAGE and CATHERINE BAUDREAU. His "godparents" were CYRIACO LOPEZ and MARIE BOUSAGE. It is signed by the REV.VINCENT GINAN. He was born on 6March 1815 and was the son of DIEGO SR. and Frausine BOSARGE. Same grandparents listed but in reference to JOHN MCAVOY and ISABEL MILON, the word "were" is now used in reference to them, in contrast to the word "are" from the 1809 Baptism of DIEGO MCAVOY (MCVOY) JR. The Godparents of MARTIN were JOSEPH KREBS and ELIONOR LEFLEAU. The same priest also performed this Sacrament. This is also recorded BOOK 2, SECTION 8 of the BAPTISMS.
