we have many stories of indian ancestors. I have found the name Kersey in a lot of tribes, but ave failed to connect----Yet ! There are to conflicting stories but both entertwine in some parts. one story is ; Stephen was an indian orphan ,raised by a white man and educated to be a doctor. Stephen married a Mary Melinda Peace. The other story is that Stephen's family came from Scotland, and Stephen was sent back to Scotland to be educated at Edinborough Medical School. While there, he met and married his wife Mary Mathilda Stewart. The only part that we can prove is that his wife was named Mary M. and he was a doctor. On the 1850 census, it has him born in SC. I always assumed that it stood for South Carolina. the other side of the family says " it stands for Scotland ". Does anyone know if it could be Scotland instead of South Carolina ? I believe that Charles Rushing married Martha ( Mattie Kersey ). I haven't found a Martha in my Kersey line. I printed out the Baron Rushing data and will work on it. thanks, doris
