He mentions several unrelated families in response to questions posed to him by Miller. D. B. Reed is the daughter of Cynthia Robinson, who was the daughter of Peggy Bailey. Does anyone know who the REED was that Cynthia Robinson married? CREEK TEST, P. 1, 2 & 3. Capt. Dixon Bailey Reed: "I am 64 years of age and live in Pensacola, FLa. I was born in Monroe Co., Ala. I claim to be of Indian blood through my mother who was a daughter of Peggy Bailey. My mother was born in Monroe Co. and I came here with her. My mother claims to be an Indian only through her mother, and Peggy Bailey, her mother, I always understood to be a Creek Indian. Peggy Bailey lived with the Creek and moved west with them to the Indian Territory and died there. My mother was recognized as a Creek Indian. She received three payments with the Creek Indians. Mrs. J. C. (Mildred) Shuttlesworth is my daughter. I know in a general way about the Treaty spoken of as the Red Jacket Treaty. It was signed by Chilly McIntoch - he signed it against the will of the people - the Creeks, and he was shot by them. My mother, Cynthia Robinson, saw him at the time he was killed. This was about the time of the removal of the Creeks to the Indian Territory. My mother was born in 1822. I know Mary E. Haggarty (17901.) Her grandmother, I also knew. She was a Choctaw Indian. She always claimed to be a Choctaw. Her name was Vaughn. She married a Negro. Richard Touart married a Vaughn who was a sister of Mary Haggarty. I do not know who Richard Touart's mother was, but I am acquainted with the Hollinger family and am related to them on my mother's side. The Hollingers were Creek Indians. I knew Jeff Hollinger - he lived down on the Little River in Alabama with the Creeks. The Sizemores are cousins of mine. My grandmother's sister married a Sizemore. The Sizemores were Creeks. The Sizemores that I am acquainted with lived in Little River, Ala. I knew William Sizemore, who would be 80 or 90 years old now, if living. He had a brother named Alex." (D. B. Reed goes on to tell the story of how Peggy Bailey's heroism at the time of the massacre resulted in her being given the tract of land that was called "Bailey's Bluff.") Signed: D. B. Reed, Feb. 4, 1908, Pensacola, FL Evelyn >> Evelyn: I believe Richard Tourat is the son of Josephine Peppeo Hollinger and ?? Tourat. Other Tourat siblings are Gill, Emma and Emile Bell. Josephine Peppeo Hollinger's second family came from Elisha or Ignatius Clara; daughter was Clara Clara and all of the children lived in the Pensacola, Milton area. I have not found a tie as of yet for Josephine back to the Adam Hollinger family but she was from Baldwin County, AL. I have Clara Clara-Shields', (Married Isaac Shields in Milton, FL, 1871), Miller application and have sent for Richard Tourat's. I have been stuck at this generation for a while. Anyone? Can you help me push back from Josephine Peppeo Hollinger, Elisha Clara or Isaac Shields? Thanks and I hope this helps you.
