    3. The Union troops took over the city of Pensacola in 1862 after the inhabitants had evacuated. The City government of Pensacola moved to Greenville AL, many of the inhabitants of Pensacola moved inland. Some bar pilots went to Selma AL. They married, had children and most came home after the war. There was suppose to be only 72 locals in town during this period according to Brosnaham diary, but I don't think that is too accurate. Many of the black folks went to live at old Warrington on the Navy Yard. And I do know of other families not in the diary that were here. There were some Civil War skirmishs in the area. You may read the "War of Rebellion Records" WOR at http://library5.library.cornell.edu/moa/browse.monographs/waro.html Also great CW history at http://sunsite.utk.edu/civil-war/ amherst-tiger@juno.com wrote: > I remember hearing somewhere that no one lived in Pensacola during the > Civil War because the fighting was so intense there. 3. Hi: Pardon me for butting in on your msg. but I noticed your "War of the Rebellion" suggestion. As some people may not know, this is NOT just a book, but ca 100 vols and one is supposed to be the index which I could not find or did not have time to "search and locate" the one thing I wanted while there at a local university. The set is called the "War of the Great Rebellion". If anyone can clue me as to WHERE the index is, maybe I can obtain another pass and go back and look for what I want. At that time a student had to get me in. Idalyn istinson@cofs.com ==================================================== ----- Original Message ----- From: L. L.
