I had tried sending the following to an LL Scott at worldnet.com and it kicked back as a bad address; anyone have a new address; can answer my question below; or forward to him; I'd appreciate any help you might be able to offer. This is a long shot, but I had saved an email from back in Mar 2001 where you responded to the Escambia County gen web site re history of Pensacola during the Civil War. You seemed very knowledgeable and well read on the history during that time period, so much that I kept the email in my files about Pensacola being evacuated by the residents; so my question: Can you direct me to any history or information about custodians of Ft. Pickens after the Civil War; actually during the mid to late 1880's; I just was told a story about my great grandfather, that he was a custodian during the time of Geronimo's stay at the fort and I would very much like to verify this family lore (truth of fiction)? Any ideas of where to start? His name was John Bernard S. Mitchell, he came to Pensacola from Bath Maine in 1850 as a ship's carpenter, he married into the Villar family (Josephine Dominguez Villar). He died in 1887 age 62. I think Geronimo was at the fort around 1885-1887. I would very much appreciate any direction you might offer. Regards, Betty Mitchell Busch
