Hello Laura, Thanks for coming to my rescue. Yes, I am in France but I was in the States when I posted that and I am getting back into it all now. If only genealogy could be that simple for all of us. Thanks again for the Vital Records info. That is what I was looking for. Now I have Nellie's name down somewhere in Florida. The pieces of the puzzle are beginning to fit. I met their last child who had Joseph's Bible. What a thrill. Too bad it was in Spanish. If anyone can help me find out more about Joseph I would appreciate your help. Cynthia, would there be a telephone number to go with that address? Thanks a lot. gis
You gave a big clue when you said Joseph's Bible was in Spanish. Why not photo copy the data pages and send to the list. I don't speak Spanish but can probably read some of it and I do have a book on genealogy Spanish. Or send me a copy at L. L. Scott 6711 Camelot Rd Milton, FL 32570 I love a mystery. I will go a check out records for you. I have much more time now as I have resigned from several positions. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Gis B" <gis22@wanadoo.fr> To: <FLESCAMB-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, September 10, 2003 2:27 PM Subject: [FLESCAMB] Re: Gillara (ca. 1900-1905) > Hello Laura, > > Thanks for coming to my rescue. We MUST NOT let the travesty below take place. According to an article today at WorldNetDaily.com, with the upcoming 2-year anniversary of the deadly 9/11 attacks, "an atheist organization is once again warning against using a steel-beam cross at the site of the World Trade Center disaster from being used in a permanent memorial to the victims who died there." The organization American Atheists (founded by the late Madalyn Murray O'Hair) is protesting a proposal to use a large steel cross found in the rubble of the World Trade Center in a memorial to victims of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. We all remember that cross. A construction worker came across it in the midst of the WTC wreckage just a few days after the attacks. It was standing straight, 20-feet high, surrounded by many smaller crosses. After it was discovered, construction workers, firefighters, police officers and family members began holding weekly Sunday services at the site. The names of fallen police officers and firefighters were also scribbled on the cross, along with the message "God Bless Our Fallen Brothers". And now, this group of atheists is threatening a lawsuit to prevent the cross from becoming part of any permanent memorial. You and I can help to stop their assault by signing ConservativeAlerts.com's online petition. ACTION ITEM: The Lower Manhattan Development Corporation, the agency overseeing the rebuilding of the area, has made no decisions on what a Ground Zero memorial would include. There's still time for hundreds of thousands of people to voice their opinion, that the "Ground Zero Cross" should remain as part of any future memorial to the WTC victims. Go to our site below to sign the "Ground Zero Cross" petition NOW: http://www.conservativealerts.com/cross.htm AOL GO HERE NOTE: In order to have an impact on the folks at the Lower Manhattan Development Corporation, we need HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS of signers, from across America and all over the world, on this petition, which we will present to the agency. We are inviting Y O U to participate in our McDADE-DNA Project which we are expecting to be a valuable asset to our paper trail research to show how our various McDADE lines throughout the world may be connected thru : 1. your direct participation if you are a direct line McDADE male descendant (direct male in your McDADE line all the way back to your earliest known McDADE ancestor, including yourself) by participating in the DNA testing. OR 2. your indirect participation (because you are or became a male descendant of a McDADE daughter at some point in your McDADE line OR are a McDADE daughter) by finding the fathers, brothers, uncles, nephews, cousins that are direct line male McDADE descendants in your family and urging them to participate under 1. above. First, if it is at all possible, please participate in the 25 marker test as this gives us a much better analysis of the known, possible, or potential relationships. Each and every participant is an important link in connecting our various lines whether our ancestor was an early arrival in the 1600's or 1700's or a later arrival in the 1800's or 1900's in Australia, Canada, England, New Zealand, USA, etc. Our ancestors may have come directly from Scotland or via Ireland, but with McDADE as the primary spelling, we are probably all cousins in one way or another. You may contact me at any time if you have questions. There is no medical connection with any of this, just a check on the male DNA markers that are passed father to son almost intact for many generations, with an occasional mutation. It is especially important to have a male participate (regardless of age) if the male is the only or one of two male McDADE descendants of a father, grandfather or great grandfather. Unfoutunately, the daughters can not do this for this particular easy, efficient, and economical test. I hope you will participate in the launching of this great project for our McDADE's everywhere. Please inform others you feel should be contacted or send me names, e-mail addresses, and or snail addresses and phone numbers for other McDADE kin. I can't wait to see how our markers reveal our potential relationships, especially if many of you will select the 25 plus marker DNA test. I called Lesley Conn at PNJ to follow up on the request to reinstate the genealogy column. She said there are no such plans. The first time I talked to her, she said she was new, and she seemed enthusiastic about looking into it.. But, now, she says they have other plans, not enough money and are cutting back on staff. She is keeping our emails on file for future reference. I don't know if more emails would help. Perhaps some letters to the editor?? I guess we should have put up a squawk when they first dropped it. Lesley's email is <lesleyconn@pensacolanewsjournal.com> Cynthia

Helen, We are in the proofreading stages. We have proofed all the Topicals. Supposed to get some of the Family Stories next week. After proofing is complete, it goes to the scanner for corrections. Eventually, all of it comes back to us to do the Index. After that, it goes to the printer. We should have it completed before Christmas--maybe in late fall. You will be getting a letter asking you to verify the address if it is to be mailed. Those picking up their books will get another letter saying when and where. We are getting there, slowly but surely. I will certainly be glad to see this completed. It is going to be a good book--304 Topicals and 728 Family Stories. Cynthia
I have been traveling and may have missed some up dates. What is the status of the book for Escambia Co.? Thank you Helen

I have placed new material and photos on the Muscogee, FL web site: http://home.mchsi.com/~jerrym151/ Gayle Palensky sent me photos of grave sites and we now have the start of a Current Restoration Efforts Page http://home.mchsi.com/~jerrym151/Continued/Restoration/RestorationEfforts.htm outlining future plans. There's not much on that page at the moment except photos of the desolation but with a few more active volunteers we will get more ideas and it will start to grow. I've also added Gayle's tombstone photos against names on the Cemetery Page. Overall, the site now has 40 pages of material. I will update the site again in a few weeks. If anyone has any old Muscogee Photos or family histories from Muscogee, get them to me and I'll include them in the next update.
