This was on the Butler Co, AL list and I wanted to foward this on to all researchers- To all genealogists: TOO many times we are forced to buy documents that are a matter of public record on file in public offices across the the nation. These documents -- wills, probate records, deeds of every type, birth, marriage and death records -- were placed on file as a matter of record only after a fee was paid to place them there so they would become public records. As a genealogist living in Texas, I cannot afford to travel to states like Georgia, South and North Carolina to publicly view records that could offer information about my family ancestors. I cannot afford to pay a professional researchers to it for me. I must rely on people who, like myself, are willing to share what resources we have -- people who have been to those far away places. If we don't take a stand for our heritage soon it will be gone and beyond our reach. PLEASE take time to read the petition at the address listed below. If you agreed that public records should remain FREE, please sign the petition and pass this link on to every genealogist you know. http://www.petitiononline.com/ethan/petition.html I was the 4768th signer. There are millions of other researchers we need to reach. If you don't care to sign, please pass this on so that some one else may have the opportunity. To Al Noblin, thanks for sending me this message. I was not aware of this situation. Mildred Stinson Brown Palestine, TX Our Southern Heritage 33rd Ala Volunteers

I have been retired for 10 years and am no longer with the FHC or WFGS. Lee, Thanks, Lee, for your support! Nice to hear from you. Keep up your great work, you have an important job! But wait until you retire----it's GREAT! Evan, Does anybody actually own this cemetery, I mean it is on public or private land? Who is in charge of maintaining the cemetery? I have Kierce and Hinote relatives buried there. Someone was kind enough to take photos for me a few years back and it was very much overgrown with weeds and such. More recently someone went back to take photos and the cemetery seemed to have been cleaned up a bit. Just wondering. I am planning a visit sometime this summer. I have a civil war maker to be placed there. Thanks, Evan, but I hardly think you would want to be "on-call" for me on the 4th of July! I have a trip South (8 days) and it will be jam-packed. On the 4th, I will be coming back from Huxford, AL -- will go to Godwin Cem. in Bratt, swing over to Flomaton to visit a cousin, backtrack and visit two sets of relatives in Molino, visit my aunt off 9-mile Rd., spend the afternoon with my cousin in Cantonment (on Clymil Dr.), and head on back to Pensacola --- doesn't that sound like a schedule that would fell a younger person??? (and I am not!) Appreciate your kind offer, indeed. I will have my daughter and grandson with me, so that if any "iffy" stuff is going on in the back, we can just yell out, "Hide the stuff! We're sightseeing!" (It's snakes I am most concerned about). Thanks for looking out for cemeteries, and wandering researchers -- I think that's a valuable service. Too often, we just get lost. Best regards, Faye

I understand that there is a Jordan Cemetery somewhere in the Gonzalez, FL vicinity (north of Pensacola). If anyone on this list knows where this cemetery is, please do let me know -- I am going South again in about a week, and I really need to find that cemetery. Thanks! Faye
My family is buried in Jordan Cemetery. Take US 29 North to Kingsfield Road in Gonzales. Turn right on Kingsfield Road and go east across Old Palafax Highway CR95A then past the RR tracks for .8 miles. Cemetery is on the left. I have a complete list of burials if you need any additional information. I am in search for Labon Hobbs as I have no dates or anything on him. Labon was the second husband of my GGG Grandmother, Laney (Skinner) Kendrick [widow of Sheldrick Kendrick]. Laney was born October 10, 1823. As a widow, Laney Skinner Kendrick married L. Hobbs August 02, 1882 in Conecuh County. Some one told me that L. Hobbs was for Labon. Laney and HOBBS moved to Escambia Counrt, FL shortly after their marriage and resided in the buriville community. Laney died there on April 29, 1902 and is buried in the Byrneville Cemetery. I do not know when Labon Hobbs died. I'm assuming in Escambia County somewhere. Any help appreciated, Leon Weekley Bay Minette, Alabama

At "familysearch.org" you can look up marriages by using the "IGI". Marriages have been extracted up to about 1900. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Ginny Deagan" <gdeagan@bellsouth.net> To: <FLESCAMB-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, June 02, 2004 8:29 AM Subject: Re: [FLESCAMB] Re: Escambia Co. I think that's the plan. The publisher said they would be mailed the week of June 21-25. Cynthia So, those of us who are receiving them by mail should receive them at about the same time others are picking theirs up? Thanks, Faye =========

I did not find her in Pensacola Vital records books, Gravestone Registry or in the St. John's Cemetery. There are microfiche copies of death records in the Public Library and at the Family History Center. I may be in Pensacola today and will check at the FHC. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Barry Fox" <bfox@charter.net> To: <FLESCAMB-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, June 01, 2004 9:26 AM Subject: Re: [FLESCAMB] Death Certificate Information > Wonderful. Hi everyone, I haven't done much with the Escambia County GenWeb site lately but my intentions are good and I am hoping to get to the Archives and copy some of the late 1800 marriages to get online.
