Hi Carolyn, Nice to hear from you about putting your stories in the SRC Volume II book. You may send stories and photos to the Santa Rosa County HBC, P.O.Box 267, Bagdad, FL 32530. If it's easier, you may email them to me at lawjolly@juno.com or to our family coordinator, Joyce Schnoor at schnoorjp@aol.com. Both of us receive stories several times a week via email. I was so interested in your email address and assume that it is Southern Baptist related. My husband, recently retired director of the Pensacola Bay Baptist Association, and I have been in ministry 45-plus years in Texas, Georgia, Florida (30-plus years) pastoring churches. We were in Costa Rica as SBC missionaries for a couple of years in the 1970s. Anyway, if I'm off track on the Southern Baptist connection, please forgive. If I'm right, let me know the connection! We'll look forward to receiving the stories! Judy Jolly, Committee Member 8588 Belle Meadow Blvd. Pensacola, FL 32514 850-484-7421
Judy, Thank you so much for telling me where to send my stories and pictures. I will try to get them to you soon. I bought the recent Santa Rosa County book, but there was not a thing in it on my husbands families, so I was a little disapointed when I got it. I truly appreciate you letting me know where to send my stories. About my email address, I hate to disapoint you, but the SBC is for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company. Sounds like though that you have had a very interesting life. Thank you again, your email was truly appreciated. Board, I'm sorry for discussing personal business on the board, I didn't pay attention when I "replied." ;=) Evan -----
Hi, Judy!! It's Evan, It's Wednesday, 1:30p After careful thought for some time now, I'm sorry I didn't get one--- I'd love to pick up one of the Heritage books-- do you still have one more I can purchase?? I'm trying to call you to 'nail one down," but your line is busy! Hold one for me, and I'll get back to ya. I'm going to Cynthia Green's aunt's wake tomorrow, if you're going to be there. Thanks, Evan ----- Original Message ----- From: "Lawson E Jolly" <

Judy, I would like a copy. I will be in Pensacola this weekend, but not Friday. What would be a good time to pick up the book? GREAT NEWS, EVERYBODY! I still have some copies of The Heritage of Escambia County, Florida for you Escambia County researchers who haven't yet added this important and impressive book to your personal libraries! A one-time only publication, this book will not go into reprint. When they're gone, they're gone!! Give me a call (484-7421), send me an email (lawjolly@juno.com), or come by the library on most Fridays, and I'll be sure to see that you get your copy. Do think Christmas! It's around the corner! MORE GREAT NEWS, EVERYBODY! You STILL HAVE TIME to send in your stories for the NEW AND UPCOMING book, The Heritage of Santa Rosa County, Florida - Volume II. I have a question. I am seeing many post about the differences between the new Family Tree Maker 2005 (www.ftm2005.com) and the Legacy Family Tree Program. I have used the PAF and ftm7.0 before and have looked in most of the reviews of all the Family Tree progams out there, from all this I have seen that FTM2005 and Legacy are the top 2 programs out there. I am leaning towards the FTM 2005 since it is the most popular but some Legacy folks have made some good points. Basically I am torn between which one to get and am looking for any good solid advice. You can email me off list at familyhunter@myresearchers.com if you want. Thanks in advance.
Pensacola Memories I was born in 1941 in Pensacola. My name is Patricia (Keen) Carpenter. I live in Clinton Twp, Michigan. It is north east of Detroit off of Lake St. Clair. I have been married to my husband Richard for fortysix years and we have seven sons. My father Dudley Blair Keen and he was killed in the war when I was 18 months old. I lived with my grandparents. Their names were Louis Edward 'Ed' and Erma Miller. They lived in Innterarity Point at the then forks of the road to Gulf Beach. My grandmother had a dairy with about 12 cows that I would help milk and my grandfather had a bar. On Friday nights there was a fish fry and every body that lived around there would come. After my ggrandfather that was retired from the Lighthouse Service passed away, we moved to Beach Haven. His name was Fredrick Hurd. I went to St. John Catholic School in Warrington. I remember going to the Navy Base with friends when I was about 13 or 14. There father was a chief in the navy and he would take us to the Aircraft carriers Antietam and Enterprise on Sundays for dinner and then watch movies on the flight deck at night. His name was Larry Lawrence Sr. I remember seeing John Wayne, Maureen O'Hare, and Dan Daily when they were shooting the movie Wings Of Eagles. John Wayne was so tall you could see him from a good distance and Maureen O'Hare's hair was so red and vivid that you could spot her easily. A few years later I saw James Cagney at the Saenger Theater. It was Premier of one of his movies of which my memory fails me on that. I went to Catholic High of which there was good memories of friends doing young and stupid fun things with. I used to drag race at red lights with who ever wanted to. My grandmother would have killed me if she knew. I thought it was fun and exciting. I remember winning a lot of times. I remember cruising on Friday nights and I think it was on Navy Blvd. and then it merged with Garden Street I believe. There was a Drive-in called the Shrimp Box that had the best Oyster Burger. My grandparents would go camping over in Santa Rosa County to a place called Yellow Bluff. We would go crabbing and gig for flounders. My Aunt Jacquie and Uncle Oscar in Ft. Walton would take me to baseball games and one time they took me to the horse race. I thought it was in New Mexico, because they bought me a coat that was decorated with Mexican symbols. They also bought me this little Mexican doll. I remember my grandfather being an Escambia County Deputy at a road prison camp. We would visit him in the evening and one of the trustee's would get us something to eat and drink. We would go to the Fair and circus when they came to town. I am sure I have more memories, but it will have to be told another time. The weekend's are as busy as the work week for me. So until another time. Patricia (Keen) Carpenter.
