Oh, yeaaaaaah. I have one Caleb EDMON(D)SON who lived mostly in Baldwin Co. AL, but some time in his life he moved across the southern border of Baldwin and lived in Florida - exact county not known. He was born in 1800 [posthumously] in SC but migrated to Loundes Co. AL and went on further south into Baldwin Co.and died 1850-56. I do not know the exact time period he lived in FL but it was after his marriage #1, and #2 in 1863. Death date is unknown but had to be after 1863. If that is too much of an indefinite time period, I won't mind if you say so. Doris, Thanks for the info on the "reprint." The lady was interested in buying a copy, I believe, and I have forwarded my personal letter TO HER, back to this list, so someone may answer her questions---perhaps Clint MORGAN, if he is on here. Yes, I too, as others, have missed him a lot. What a willing and hard worker! Dogged, passionate, and a real stickler for doing something right!!! Did you know that the Saturday AFTER he turned in his finished product (the 840+ sheets of the book) to the board, he had his first heart attack. How awesome----it was as if he waited to get the project done! And I think he did! Sorry, folks, a little reminiscing from time to time for a good friend! When it's over, it's over---except for the great memories of someone, and the legacy of a giving heart! Quick anecdote--- When we (the Board) pressed on Richard one night to take on the Santa Rosa portion of the cemetery project, he resisted and resisted. He was very wrapped up in his own JERNIGANs, and had so much to do. Additionally, his wife is a JERNIGAN, so he had ALREADY surveyed and copied about a third of the cemeteries in Santa Rosa--- just for his own family history!! I mentioned to him (rhetorically) that who else, pray tell, would be appropriate for the job??!! And, of course, he decided, with just a little hesitation, to do it!! And WHAT A JOB HE DID! Thanks, Richard........and Dorothy! A book has been written by Del Jupiter with your Brown and Kelker families. The name of it is "Agustina of Spanish West Florida". It is excellent. I have an autographed copy (thanks, Del). There is a copy of it at the Pensacola Public Library in the Genealogy Section. Jackson Morton purchased his land in Santa Rosa County in 1838 from William & Kinchen Ellis, Rolley Roebuck, and William and Barbary Bryan. Jackson Morton led a company in the Creek Indian Wars of 1836. The land he purchased became a huge plantation. A book has been written about him by Dr. Brian Rucker, a professor at University of West Florida, published by Patagonia Press, and can probably be found in the UWF Gift Shop. ----- Original Message ----- From: Harris/Larkins <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Tuesday, December 07, 1999 5:58 PM Subject: [FLESCAMB] Help tracing family tree: Larkins/Brown/Kelker and Morton > Dear Group: I am new to the list and need a little help and a lot of advice > in order to get me started in searching my family tree. > > Question 1: > I am just beginning to research my family tree. Evan I would like to have a look-up for these names, supposed to be in the Milton City Cemetery: Abner Penton, Nancy (Arenda Thompson) Penton, any Pentons also listed there. I also have COBB relatives buried in that cemetery. I know this is a very vague request, so if you can help me with anything, I thank you very much! I would also like to know where to purchase a copy of the book mentioned, or where to find that material on-line. As of the last time I checked the SRC webpage I found only Coon Hill Cemetery (or was it Juniper?), and one other or so, listed there. It is a very big service to the rest of us, when someone spends their time and efforts mapping out the cemeteries of this county, or anywhere. If I were able to get about I would love to do that. Besides, I just find it very interesting to speculate about the the lives of those buried. Most of my immediate family is buried in the Elizabeth Chapel Cemetery, in Chumuckla. Has anyone mapped that one out, and if so, how recently was it done? I might be able to help some with that one, by driving through most of it, and may have someone who would be willing to walk to the graves I can't drive close to, but it would have to wait until springtime. I hope everyone in your family (and in our mail list family) has a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, and remembers that our Lord Jesus is the reason for celebrating the season! Peace and blessings. <>< <>< Until next time....Christine in Northwest FL
A while back WFGS recopied the Santa Rosa Cemetery Book done by Richard Jernigan . They did have the pages for sale, but you had to buy a loose leaf notebook to put them in. They just might have one or two packets left. I'm sure if there is enough interest generated for the book , they just might have it recopied, or you might borrow someone's pages and copy them yourself. The hardback copy is at the Library down town. I miss Richard----! Doris

GL West, The Santa Rosa book probably does NOT have info that is NOT included in the Okaloosa books, unless, of course, the cemetery is IN Santa Rosa County itself. It sounds like a confusing answer, I know. But I am a little uncertain of your question. Basically, Richard and his team read all the cemeteries in the Santa Rosa County, NOT Okaloosa County---we knew Okaloosa was working on THEIR own for a long time! So, though I did not accompany Richard on is rounds, it's fair to say that he probably stuck to Santa Rosa County. We had to beg and plead with him for a long time just to take THIS county on! ;=) All of that said, his book has 125 cemeteries in it, with a total of 844 pages, including the index. It is a fabulous book and is a wonderful resource! I don't remember how many folks are listed in it, however. There were only 250 copies made originally, and surely they are all gone. It's hardbound. Ginny Deagan or someone could tell you if it's online, but I dont believe so. It will be an unbelievable task. If, however, you would like some easy lookups, i'd be glad to do that for you. Hi Janet, Yes, Milton library IS open Mondays---Since I'm off every other Monday, it's my secret haunt. Can you believe it is a "branch" of the West Florida Regional Library, but it is OPEN on Mondays!!?? Their genealogy section is NOT extensive---but I wouldnt say anything negative/derogatory about it. They are proud of it, and they have really worked on it. They get some hand-me-downs from our library, I believe. The have an assortment of US Census reels, and two readers; there is a little nook, kinda off to itself, where you can get quiet. There is rarely anyone there, and if you're just looking for some local stuff, they have it---Censuses, books, indexes, and reference material. But it's small. Actually, you owe it to yourself to just go over there on some MOnday, and check it out yourself. As I said, I think a Jim BROCK comes in on Monday afternoons, and he is a very friendly and helpful person, and is very active in their small Gen Society. He's a great talker. And, when you have the genealogy bug, and the public library is CLOSED, I'm always glad it's open! Yes, Clopton IS on (just off) Davis Hwy, just south of Brent Lane, right behind the tall church there. Just take one of those roads alongside and drive down to the cemetery. By the way, I can probably find a copy of that cemetery around here somewhere if you want to look up something. Just let me know.
