    2. Harris/Larkins
    3. Dear Group: Thanks to everyone who offered their advice and help in finding information about my grandfather Isaiah LARKINS and Jackson MORTON who is buried in our family cemetery in Milton. In less than 24 hours after I posted my queries, I had received information about slaves and whites together in southern cemeteries, advice on how to search the web voters list and the censuses in Milton and Pensacola, and was informed that two books exists that might help me: "Agustina of Spanish West Florida" by Del Jupiter which includes the KELKER AND BROWN sides of my family as well as a biography about Jackson Morton written by Dr. Brian Rucker. It would have taken me a year to find this information on my own. Thanks again for your help and perhaps when I come to Milton I can meet some of you who reside in that area. I co-edited the third volume of the death records with Sid and it did include the cause of death. I won't be going to the library until after the holidays but would do a look-up if needed - as long as the request is sent to me after Jan 1st. I have such a long list of things to answer after this month that I am afraid that I will forget if a request is sent now! This is a special Christmas for us since our whole family will be here - even all of our grandchildren are coming from Okinawa, Arizona & Georgia and Texas as well as our four children and their husbands and wives. The first ones will be coming this weekend. 2. Mark, I helped Sid Thomes document those Death Records ( at the Health Dept). It was a long time ago, but I believe that it did list the cause of death. Assuming you are from Escambia County------, There is a book at the downtown Library with the deaths from that era. If you go there , ask Dolly Pollard to show you where to find the book. If you're not from P'cola, you can to write the genealogy room for a look up. If you need the address, I will be glad to provide it. Better still , maybe one of the library volunteers is reading this and will do a look up for you. Doris

I ask so that if there was, I could find the proper address to write to for these wills and if they died intestate, would there also be documents to that effect in the county courts. 1. George A. Duff died Mar. 20, 1974, Pensacola, Escambia, Fl. 2. Albert E. Duff died May 17, 1993, Pensacola, Escambia, Fl. Thank-you for any help you can give. Sue [email protected]

    3. What infomation is on an Escambia County death certificate circa 1900? Does the WFGS document "Pensacola Vital Records, Deaths, 1899-1910" list cause of death? Are these records just for the city of Pensacola or for the entire county? Mark Sondys surnames: Sunday, Moore, McCurdy, Pons

    3. Hi, Mark, Since I am the first to comment, let me say that the book you referenced, "Pens Vital Recds, Deaths, 1899-1910" recorded the ..."death records for the city of Pensacola, Florida." I put it in quotes, because that's what the Preface says. However, in going through this book, I hfind numerous references places OUTSIDE the city limits, e.g., Brent, Perdido, Goulding, even a Salem, Va, and a "Ship SS Thlema. So, I think it's fair to assume that deaths outside the city limits are in this book. remembering, of course, that such records of birth and death were not required by law until sometime after 1910, I believe. So, we are tickled to have these, and MORE tickled that our Health Department allowed us to transcribe them!!!! Right, folks? Additionally, the Cause of Death IS given, though you might need your medical dictionary! ;=) For instance, "Inanition, Dropsy, Consumption, Acute Centonatis, Infantile Itrophy, and Mamtian Premature! 3. Well, it just said that in 1905 the last case of yellow fever was noted then a cure was found...and I am assuming after the year 1905 there was no more yellow fever..now there is 12 months in that year.....I am sure many died b4 the cure was found/guiven etc pat

    1. Re: [FLESCAMB] Yellow Fever in 1905
    2. Just a personal opinion, but I bet the reason lots of folks died becouse of the yellow fever even tho there was a cure was becouse of complications. They dident have antibiotics then, and then of course there were the poor, or isolated folks who dident have access to the cure (I think someone already mentioned that possibility) Denise

    2. Mark Sondys
    3. Thanks to all those that responded to my inquiry on Yellow Fever. Although I did not find any statistics about the epidemic in 1905 I am posting a short summary of what I did find. The following is from "The Florida Coordinating Council on Mosquito Control". Yellow Fever: Like the DEN viruses, YF is a flavivirus. It can be transmitted in a mosquito-man-mosquito cycle Although YF has not been seen in Florida for many decades, it was the scourge of the area until its last appearance in 1905. YF was first seen in Pensacola in 1764, and in 1874 killed 354 of that city's 1400 residents. Similarly, 1500 of Fernadina's 1600 residents were struck by YF in 1877. There is more specific medical information on the disease at: http://www.teleport.com/~until/v_yellow.htm -- Mark Sondys mailto:[email protected]
