J. Godwin, I got my cemetery copies from the Genealogy Society. I don't think there are any more. We really do need to do an upgrade but most of us are getting old and the heat , bugs, briars and boogie monsters are a prime factor now days. Are they are for me anyway. These books were done way back in the 1980's If you are in Pensacola , the library down town has all of the books by Evan and the WFGS . Unfortunately my niece took her book on the Godwins, and I didn't keep any copies. They weren't blood kin to me, so I had no need to keep any . Best I can remember the Surnames in her book are Godwin, Coleman, Byrd, White, and several others that I don't remember right now. If you are kin to any of those surnames, I will be glad to get the information for you. Meanwhile I will look up the names you mentioned. the Godwin Cemetery in located up in Bratt, Fl. It is a family cemetery and mostly family buried there with the exception of some buried in the Milton Cemetery. Doris
If you people that has Gates connections would contact me by e-mail, I may be able to help. Richard Gates [email protected]
Doris, Brenda and I are researching Godwins. Is there any way I can get a copy of the information you have on the Godwin Cemetery and buy a copy of the book? My connection is through Marion Godwin - Johnnie McArthur. By any chance do you have any information on the McArthur family? Thanks! J. Mona, I am researching Godwins - as is Brenda to whom I have cc this message. Do you have any information on Marion Godwin who married Johnnie McArthur? Or anything on the McArthurs? Marion and Johnnie are buried at the Godwin cemetery, as are his parents. But the markers are gone and I don't know where the graves were or the information. Thanks! J. There is a Florida task force that probably could be of help, if they still exist. Maybe Evan knows! It is still in the Jordan family. Jinx
Tell Don, he has a California Cousin...living with Frogs... Joe
COOL....If Lovard Franklin (Lovell) (Budie) McNair is Melvina McNAIR's brother than Tirquill is their father, and he is my 3 rd Great Grandfather....And I have his line traced way back...including his mothers line which was Sarah LEE, decs. from John LEE, Esq.....Why was he listed as William on the census? Joe
I have some info that states that the parents of Lovard Franklin (Lovell) (Budie) McNair are Tirquill McNAIR and Amanda SPEERS. This was a child from Tirquill's 2nd Marriage. However on the 1880 census he is listed as William McNAIR. The info was sent to me by a McNAIR researcher who received the info from a book. Don't know if this right or not. Most of the other info was correct....What do you think Mona?
Cousin Nadine, I will contact TC BOYETT who has the family Bible. I will try to get copies from him. He sent me snapshots of the bible but you cant make out much of it because of the glare. Could you send me a copy of your line. I need to update my files. I lost my computer to a power surge so I had to buy a new one (darn!) and need to reimput my data. Of course I had no backup (Stupid me). Was I going to send you some info? Let me know...All my notes were in the computer when it blew. GREAT!!!! Hearing from ya again. Me and the lady are planning a trip out there this summer. I will clean the plot then. I am trying to get a CSA gravestone marker for Charles BOYETT through CSA association. I have Elizabeth's pension records but not his military records. If you want copies of those, let me know.... Please send me your line.... Talk to ya soon. Joe in SUNNY California
Ok I might as well throw this one in too, We have the McNair connection but the McNair are married to the Merritt, there is a "Jim " James R. Merritt that married Sarah GODWIN is was born 1841 and died July 19,1934 is she conected with this same GODWIN clan? I dont have anymore on her just that she is one of the Merritt grandparent. Sharon
Mona, So glade to see you on, I would be intrested if these McNair's are connected to Joe's line for if they are they are also connected to mine through my late huband. Now my second husband is a THURMAN. Been needing to get in contact with you on that we are looking for the parents of ELIJAH THURMAN of SIMPSON CO Mississppi, dont you have a THURMAN line as well in Mississippi???? Also there are some MCNAIRS in Simpson County. What I am getting at here is there a possible connetion. I know some of the GATES that are tied with this line came to PENSACOLA, FL. Also there was a MCNAIR that led Confederated troups during the Civil WAR. And a GATES the came to Pensacola and lead troups back to Mississippi. What a small world. Joe I have some of those frogs that live in my Coke machine when ever it rains that go off what a rackett I feel for you. Sharon A. Thurman
Jinx I agree ! It is in rather sad shape. As I said, " I could tell at one time someone took good care of it. The person that I did the pictures for does not live here, and was concerned but didn't know anyone that would still be alive to tend it ( her family plot ). There has got to be some county code that says the owners must clean it ! Especially with all of the new homes going in out there. The cemetery is on the East side of Kingsfield Road. I live about three blocks down from Kingsfield Road but on the Westside down off of 297A. You can bet if I lived over in that area, I would be finding someone to do something about it. If they get enough complaints, I THINK that the county can go in and clean it and assess the owners>>>>Not sure about that, does anyone know ? I have a family private cemetery over in Paradise Bay. We have to keep it clean. Doris
Joe, Mona is right on target. I did not remember the parents of Maxine, Donald and Dorothy until I saw it . Maxine died back in 1986 and Ivan remarried. Don, and Dot still live in Myrtle Grove. I know them well, if you'd like to get in touch with them. Are they your McNairs ? Also I have a listing of the Godwin Cemetery in Bratt. I have just finished a genealogy book for my niece who is kin to most of the Godwins who originated around that area and Escambia County. Doris
Melvina McNAIR is sister to Lovard Franklin (Lovell) (Budie) McNAIR. The marriage application for William GODWIN and Melvina McNAIR was dated Sep/01/1887. He can be found on 1880 US Florida Census, Escambia County, Precint 5, Super. Dist. 18, Enum. Dist. 46. Both are located on 1900 US Florida Census, Escambia County, prct. 3, Millview, sup. dist. 1, enum. dist 14, page116, lines 51-58; occupation: Wheel Wright; also states that Melvina had 6 children, 6 chldren are living. The 6 children seem to be Felia E. Godwin, Robert Franklin Godwin, William E. Godwin, Alice Estelle Godwin, Anna Elizabeth (Liza) Godwin and Enoch J. Godwin. William Charles BOYETT and Bessie GODWIN married Feb/19/1912. According to 1900 US Florida Census, Escambia County, prct. 3, Millview, sup. dist. 1, enum. dist 14, page122, lines 32-42, the birth date of William Charles is about Abt. Apr/1886. later, mona In a message dated 02/25/2000 11:19:39 PM Central Standard Time, [email protected] writes: << The only info I have on GODWIN is a William GODWIN who married Melvina McNAIR. The parents of Flora Maxine McNair are Clarence Franklin McNair and Claudia Lee Moore. Her husband is Ivan Sarver. Parents of Clarence Franklin McNair are Lovard Franklin (Lovell) (Budie) McNair born Sep/08/1869 and Martha Elizabeth (Mattie) Suarez born Apr/05/1867. later, mona In a message dated 02/25/2000 8:43:41 PM Central Standard Time, [email protected] writes: << Joe, you asked who Maxine McNair's parents were. I have called Donald her brother, and can't seem to get in touch with him. Maxine married a Sarver. They all still live in Myrtle Grove. They have been there for eons. Hi, Yes, it's me!!! I have been doing so many things at once that it has been hard for me to keep up with everyone. I have ordered and placed three war markers and that's a chore, I have to wait until I can get help with them before they can be placed. The family plot for Boyett is in bad need of cleaning and that is one thing that I cannot do, wish I could. I can't remember seeing any Helton graves, but will return and check as soon as I can. Do you have war records for Charles D. Boyett? If not, I will order them and when I get them, I will send you a copy. I wish I could get a copy of the names from the Family Bible of Elizbeth Harvell/ Boyett's. That would be a rgeat asset to add to Chuck's file. I contacted the owner of the cemetery last year in the Fall after I found out it was owned personally. I had a group that wanted to help clean. We were told to leave it alone. They do not want the cemetery cleaned and explained why. I thought it rather ridiculous. Jinx
Hi, I wish I had known about you wanting someone to look for names before tonight. I went today and have not been online for most of the week. I sent you a message earlier. What names are you looking for? We walked around quite a bit today. Nadine ----- Original Message ----- From: Joseph M.
