    1. [FLESCAMB] McNAIR * GODWIN * SPEERS
    2. In a message dated 02/26/2000 9:52:02 AM Central Standard Time, [email protected] writes: << I have some info that states that the parents of Lovard Franklin (Lovell) (Budie) McNair are Tirquill McNAIR and Amanda SPEERS. This was a child from Tirquill's 2nd Marriage. However on the 1880 census he is listed as William McNAIR. The info was sent to me by a McNAIR researcher who received the info from a book. Don't know if this right or not. Most of the other info was correct....What do you think Mona? >> There is a problem with Tirquill McNAIR. Seems he is shown also as William and John Thomas McNAIR. I also have Amanda SPEERS as the wife, but SPEERS may have been her maiden as I show her having a son, William E. SPEERS. The daughter of (Tirquill) (William) (John Thomas) McNAIR and Amanda SPEERS, Melvina McNAIR married William GODWIN. According to 1880 US Florida Census, Escambia County, Precint 5, Super. Dist. 18, Enum. Dist. 46, William GODWIN is son of Taylor GODWIN born in AL. I don't have the parents of Taylor GODWIN but he may be the grandson of William GODWIN of GA that moved to Conecuh Co, AL sometime between 1816 and 1820. later, mona

My husband's family gave the land for the original cemetery - his parents, Marion and Johnnie Godwin, are buried there. He told me that his grandparents were buried there, but the marker is gone. I don't know where the graves are located - I'm looking for anything on the family - especially documentation. And I have nothing on his mother (Johnnie McArthur) - I think they all must have come here from AL years ago. 3. Jeanne, If I may be so bold as to butt in (maybe I'm out of line). In the Vol I of the cemetery books, I see Marion and Johnie GODWIN: Marion b. December 12, 1881 d. June 07, 1957 Johnnie A. b. February 14, 1883 d. May 03, 1919 I don't know if this will help you, but they are buried next to a Siddie GODWIN b. 1907 d. 1963 And next to a Claudia GODWIN, b. May 3, 1924 Would this be of any help?? They cemetery book lists the Section # and Grave #, but without the original map, this is almost useless info. But if you note the grave #s of Marion and Johnnie A., they are #229 and #230 respectively, and Siddie is #231, and Claudia is #232----All in Section 3. If Siddie and Claudia are still there, you could just about see the locations of the missing headstones! What do you think? Evan P.S., I could give you other folks buried in Section 3, if that would get you closer to the correct area. It's a beautiful cemetery, by the way. 3. Do y'all remember what happened when Commissioner Willie Junior set out to clean up the old Zion[?] cemetery over at the Grand Hotel, near Palafox and Guillemard?? And they sued him! Even the eventual owners had good arguements for it, it seems. However, all that said----I would call the county commissioner for your district (as a starting point), and see what his office (or HE) says about the law. It think that would be a good start!
