    2. Evan, my County Commisioner is leaving office. He could care less about what happens. He talks out of both sides of his mouth ( if you know what I mean ) ! I live in a private subdivision and in order to get the county to take over the roads and pave them. EACH household is going to have to cough up $10,000, and he thinks that we should be grateful at the low price. Never mind that our land taxes are sky high already. Yes I do remember what happend to Willie Jr., but he does go out on a limb for the people of his district. that's why he's been in office for so long. Let's don't turn this into a political arena. Just wanted you to know that it will do no good to go to the County Commisioner of this district. Doris

Now my second husband is a THURMAN. Been needing to get in contact with you on that we are looking for the parents of ELIJAH THURMAN of SIMPSON CO Mississppi, dont you have a THURMAN line as well in Mississippi???? Also there are some MCNAIRS in Simpson County. What I am getting at here is there a possible connetion. I know some of the GATES that are tied with this line came to PENSACOLA, FL. Also there was a MCNAIR that led Confederated troups during the Civil WAR. And a GATES the came to Pensacola and lead troups back to Mississippi. What a small world. Sharon A. Thurman >> Many families have conections to Newton Co, MS and Escambia Co, FL. I do have numerous THURMAN and McNAIR in MS. I've just picked out two. Sherrod HORN born about 1762 married Martha Patricia (Patsy) Thurman. I don't know the parents of this THURMAN, do you? Sherrod HORN and Martha Patricia (Patsy) Thurman had son Needham HORN. Needham HORN was in Simpson County, MS. Needham's descendants were in Newton County, MS. Charles McNAIR married Betty McMULLAN. They were also in Newton Co, MS. The McMULLAN line of Newton Co, MS also connects to Escambia Co, FL. later, mona

    2. Jeannie, Here is how my nieces line goes. William Godwin born 1700's married Pheriby ? in Georgia and they moved to Pollard Alabama there was a William 11 born April 8, 1807 in Ga but died in Pollard, Al. He had a twin named Thomas, no death date . There were other children . If they are your William Godwin I can send those later. William married Elizabeth McCabe Brewton, they had nine children One was Sabra Larsa Godwin b.Dec 20 1832 in Burnt Corn, died 1920 in Bratt ( where the cemetery is on Hwy 4 ) She married Cornelius Coleman who had Mary Coleman, who married Hezekiah Byrd. Also there was a Nancy Coleman ( sister to Mary ) who married William Godwin b. 1862, Mary Coleman and Hazeziah Byrd had Rutha Byrd who married James William White, who had Katie Bell white, who married Albert Goodwin and so on. Sorry to shorten this but I have to leave. If any of them sound familiar, I will gladly furnish ALL of the info for you. I got most of my info from other relatives and the library, plus I have Family Tree Maker. I don't put a lot of faith in FTM because I have found a lot of wrong names and dates in different research. However- it can give you a clue as to where to search Be gald to look anything up for you. Doris

    3. You are right on target! Marion and Johnnie are my children's grandparents - and their markers (last time I was there) are in place. I don't know who - or our connection to - Siddie and Claudia are. What I desperately want to find is the location of the graves of Thomas Henry Godwin (6/28/1920) and Sarah E. Hammac Godwin (3/27/1921). I was told they are buried under a tree - but the markers are gone and I can't guess where they might be. Have you ever heard anything about the McArthur family - we assume they must have come to Escambia Co. from AL probably with the Godwin ancestors - especially parents of Johnnie McArthur Godwin?
