Hi! I have Green Ellis, b. 1822, m. Amanda Nobles. One of her sisters married Asa Bailey (they're buried on the original land grant near Chumuckla). Green and Amanda are buried at Brantley Cemetery, Chumuckla Springs. Does the book mention when they came to AL? from where? Is there any mention of a McArthur family? Johnnie McArthur married Marion Godwin. Could you possibly put that out for all of us who are working on that group? I would appreciate it if people who are having a chat only with one or two other persons on this list to send emails directly to each other and not through the list. Your postings crowd other's mailboxes. Thank you Marcy Pitkin
Doris, I am not descended from the Godwins. What I posted came from a book by Annie Waters on the "History of Escambia Co. AL." I'll be glad to look anything up for you. Judi
Found these names on some info I received from a fellow searcher from a Bible in the possession of a McNair MATTIES BUTLER FOSTER KNIGHT BUTTS FISK HODGES LEWIS Joe
Jeanne, No that's the one that I don't have . They even have his name spelled as possible Goddin ( ? ). It gets confusing when you get the Godwins and the Goodwins in one family. I can send you the e-mail address of one of your probable cousins , who lives in California. My stepfather was a Goodwin who decended from the Godwins. they are no blood relations to me. I have some half brothers here in Pensacola that are related to you. I also have a picture of Rutha Byrd White and her husband James White. Be glad to share a copy. I think that Suzi in Caifornia has a lot more. Doris
Where else is the record that states the different spellings of Tirquill McNair. I have his homestead records and he signed as Tirquill. He also died in Nov 21 1897, according to church records i have. He did have a grandson, Thomas Quiller McNAIR aka T.Q. McNair and Quill McNAIR. Thomas Quiller also has a son that was Thomas Quiller Jr. Could these be names that some are mistaking for Tirquill. I also have family letters that were written in the late 1800's that refer to "Quill" and his son Gilbert (aka William Gilbert McNAIR) Tjhey were written by his sisters to eachother.... What do you think "Oh Wise Mona" (hehehehe) Joe
I have a list of 9 Godwin books but the spelling is Goodwin. All or most of them are written about the New England family Joe
Is William B GODWIN and Wll B. the same person....and I wonder if this is my William GODWIN that married Melvina McNair? so many question..... Joe
Jeanne, Working on William GODWIN who married Melvina McNAIR Bessie GODWIN who married Willaim Charles BOYETT Bessie was born about 1885 William about 1870 Thanks Joe
Sharon Please do try to find George McNair. I have found that many of the old burials can't be found anymore. You can call Union Hill Baptist Church and they will tell you what burials there are. When you go, do me a favor and write down any BOYETT's, and McNAIRs you find. I have never found out where Tirquill is buried. That is why I need to take a trip there. Im glad we can share. I get copies of the records I do have and get it to you as soon as I can. Joe in SNOWEY California....The frogs are freaking
If you send it to Donna Buchanan, hostess for the Santa Rosa County genweb site, everyone can read it. If more of us would put Northwest Florida records on-line, we could have a site comparable to "Tracking Your Roots" . Bible records are especially important, because they're rarely shared. I'm putting the Ward-Kirkland Bible on-line. A cousin has had it for years and kept it secretive. Another cousin (thanks, Carole) sent copies of it to me a few months ago, after she discovered it had been passed down through the Reuben Ard line for generations. The original Reuben Ard was on the 1820 Spanish Census of Escambia County, East Bank of the Escambia River, which became Santa Rosa County. I get really emotional about this type of primary resource being "hoarded" and, too many times, lost forever when the possessor dies and relatives, who don't know the value, throw away their things. ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Sunday, February 27, 2000 10:35 AM Subject: Re: [FLESCAMB] Godwin Info > Mona, > > I do not know what your guidelines are for sending information to > FLESCAMB...so > since several people asked for this information then I hope it is not > inappropriate > to send it this way.
