Joe - I bought the book at the Pensacola Historical Society Resource Center and Library, 117 E Government St, Pensacola 32501, telephone (850) 434-2569. The cost is $15.00 plus postage. Dolores
I wanted to try listing this name once again. I am looking for a Brooksie Godwin, married to Milburn Martin James, my gg-uncle. I believe Milburn died in the 1980s. I am a James descendant and have had trouble finding anything on my line and am hoping that I can find something through siblings' lines. Thanks, Melissa Franks Gantt
I'm guilty, too, and apologize. I get so caught up in this wonderful historical dialog and activities, I sometimes forget I'm on the board when answering--- I guess that's what we have a listowner for, huh? Joe, Unless someone is just going out there for themselves, or has to look something up, I found our own rendition of the Union Hill Cem survey, just the other day, and have given it to our local WebMaster for a decision. If you can wait for a short time, I will attempt to get it back long enough to find the McNAIRs and BOYETTEs. If I remember, there were over 1,000 graves in there, and it was NOT an easy one to read! Of course, anyone else who has this cemetery done, go right ahead. I'm just trying to save someone a long trip to that cemetery. Thankss, buddy. Do the frogs get in your morning coffee? Doris, Evan here! Was it you who was giving me a long story of B.F. KERSEY one time??? About his gravestone being missing from Santa Rosa Island? And it was found by the Eglin police?? If not, I'm sorry. I just wanted to hear the story again, since I ran into his headstone information last night. If anyone knows about the Benj F. KERSEY debacle, drop me a line. Jeanne, Not sure if these are the ones, but there a couple of possiblities in the Cemetery Book, Vol I: Thomas GODWIN that you listed is grave #0313, Section 3; Sarah E. GODWIN that you listed is grave #0311, Section 3; In and of itself, that doesn't help a lot, I know, I know---;=) And I dont even think I have the original sketch or map that I used, and I just gave all my cemetery files away (I knew I was going to be sorry, Ginny-- ;=) ;=) ) However, Jeanne, if I can give you OTHER graves, by number, that are close, you should be able to find these very close to those you are looking for: For instance, #308 is James S. GODWIN, #314 is John D. GODWIN, #315 is Henry Taylor GODWIN, #316 is W.M. GODWIN, and #319 is Sarah E. GODWIN (1875 - 1877). If those dates of your Sarah and Thomas Henry are in my book, then, of course, I must have read them, which means they were there when I did it, right? So, they may have taken the stones, but, if you're lucky, the plots should be fairly easy to find, you know, depression, dirt, etc. What do YOU think?? Does that help? Do you live close enough by that you can check it out? Or do you need help---are you local? Let me know, Jeanne. This came across the "Somebody's Links" list: o A purse donated to charity contains one sheet of paper with family information. Some of the people listed are from Pinellas County, Florida. Surnames are BOYD, BLANTON, and GODWIN. Would love to return this to rightful owner. Please identify, and I will mail to you. Barb <[email protected]>
You are right Mona. I'm guilty ! I do get off subject sometimes. However this is a great list and some of us tend to reminisce at times. I'll try to do better, Sorry, Doris
Joe, there is a huge clan of Goodwins in New England. That's where they all originated. They have a very large family reunion every year. dues and everything. A lot of people get them confused with Godwin. Try sorting out Goodwin and Godwin for family genenalogy. I had a time doing that book for my niece. When they intermarry , it's enough to drive you nuts. Would you mind sharing the names that you have on the Goodwins. I sat and typed what I had on the Godwins and sent it to the list. it came back to me as returned mail. ( I loaned my scanner to my granddaughter to do some college work. That was two months ago. I might as well go over to,Sams and buy a new one.) I have been having a great deal of trouble with AOL lately. I have been with them for years. I am about ready to tell them what to do with thier server. I got knocked off line 7 times in less that 15 minutes. All I was trying to do was read my e-mail. I usually answer it off line. A lot of people have told me that AOL say's that I am not a member., and that thier mail has been returned. This is the first time that it has happend to me though. As many e-mails that I've written to this list ---I know the address. Is anyone else experiencing problems with them ? Doris

I would be interested in knowing what Jones family that Maxine Jones Allen is from since my ancestors all lived in Escambia and Santa Rosa County. I am still trying to locate some of the family members.

Hi Friends and Relatives, Whoops! Sending complaints to our Escambia County, FL mailing list is a big no-no. The "reply to" on this list is set to return to the whole list for a reason....in hopes that any family that's mentioned in the content will be recognized by someone else researching the same. If the families you're looking for haven't been mentioned, chime up. A great many of the people on this list have extensive knowledge of Escambia County, FL. Many have surveyed cemeteries, transcribed numerous records and have either published books or own a wealth of books pertaining to our county folks. In addition, many on this list will "go out of their way" to help you even if they aren't related. Just ask. However, our list would be a bit more user friendly, if when you reply, you will change the subject line to include some of the surnames or topic you're discussing. The only other thing I ask is that you "do not" do a roll call listing only sunames. Just cut to the chase. Name names, dates, spouses, children, anything that might lead to recognition. later, mona
