    3. Donna Berkley is the chairperson for transcribing, updating, getting ready for the Internet and also for eventually printing Volume III of Escambia County Cemeteries. I believe she plans on at least checking with the large commercial cemeteries but this will all take a lot of time. -- Ginny Deagan - Pensacola, FL Tom & Ginny Deagan's Home Page: http://www.pcola.gulf.net/~gdeagan An Index to the Genealogical Web Pages that I have Online: http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~vgdeagan/index.htm My New England, New York and Pennsylvania Families Escambia Co. 3. Vickie, Have you tried the Bladen Co NC website? The genealogical society just published their Heritage Book. It's at the library here in town. It's great, and I might buy it myself. Elizabethtown is the county seat. I want to go back but it's over a hundred miles through backroads. I looked for my listing of their books for sale. I'll look again. The one on the Dixons is not for sale. It's a local family history and you know what that means. I don't recall the title of the book, that's the problem. I was looking for my Ellis line, and the Dixons intermarried with my Cobb line from Augusta, GA pre-1800. Do you live in Pensacola? If so, there's a woman in the WFGS who researches the Dixons. Ginnie Deagan is in that organization and might know her. We moved here 6 years ago when our Pensacola Depot closed, and I've lost contact. ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Wednesday, March 15, 2000 8:34 AM Subject: Re: [FLESCAMB] John Alexander Dixon > If you could give me the title or titles, I would appreciate it. 3. Lee, I may be able to answer that-----at the risk of sounding pessimistic, I dont think so. There may be some good reasons for that. I asked that question some years ago, and others have asked it since. The have said that it gives aggressive business folks an increased opportunity to "lean" on the relatives of the dead, by knowing who in the cemetery has a headstone, but NOT a death date. That doesnt make much sense when said that way---- In other words, when a person dies, and a headstone is in place, the spouse often puts his there, too. Now it puts him in a position of having "pre-need" arrangements, and he might fall prey to pests (of the two-legged kind) who want to take advantage of the pre-need arrangement. Additionally, it is a private company, and therefore, private property, unlike many cemeteries. They have a right to say NO, and the have said it to me and others! For whatever reasons. I respect that, even tho there was a time I would have loved that challenge! On the other hand, they are readily available (business hours) to find someone for you, I understand, and they have apparently gotten it all on computer themselves. So, if you are looking for someone, just call them. Matter of fact, call them to ask about having a survey done. That might be interesting, then we could see if someone would get it started!! ;=) How 'bout it, Ginny? ;=)) Has anyone in an official capacity asked lately? Donna? 3. Archdiocese Of Mobile PO Box 1966 Mobile, AL 36633 *I received this reply on Feb 23. Just found the paper again--sorry for the delay: Requesting Baptismal and Burial Records-- "The fee, as set by the Archbishop is $7.50 an hour, for research and $5.00 per copy of sacramental records." "At a quick glance at our Baptismal Books, I found five (5) entries of baptisms for children of Diego and Frausine Bosarge (MCVOY)born between 1807 and 1821. In the 1841-1846 there are three (3) MCAVOY and sixteen(16) Burn/Byrne/Byrnes. If you could give some particulars to narrow the list it would be helpful. The address for St.Michael's Church is: 19 N. Palafox St. Po Box 12423, Pensacola FL 32582..." It was signed Bernadetter Mathews, Archivist. Hope this helps. The address on the top of the stationery was: The Catholic Center, Archdiocese of Mobile, 400 Government St. Po Box 1966, Mobile AL36633 and the phone number listed is:9334)434-1585 And under that it says "Chancery Archives" Hope this helps! bonnie

    3. I have added some new cemeteries to the Escambia County GenWeb page recently, thanks to files provided by Evan Strohl, I am now putting inscriptions that contain genealogical information with the burials. Hopefully, someday I can re-do the ones that are already online and add the inscriptions to them. His entry in the student register stated he was from Mobile, Alabama; he registered for the second level of coursework; and that he attended “Washington Univ. The counties my Milligan family lived in are Santa Rosa, Escambia (FL & AL) Okaloosa, and Lee her 2nd husband William J. is buried in the Early Cemetery in Niceville. I have not been able to check there for her. No one in the family seems to know when or where she died. She may be buried in an unmarked site but I hope there is some record of when she died. Another clue is that she was born in Brewton (Escambia co. ) and that is where her first marriage took place there to F. A. Majors in the year 1880. Susan and her 2nd husband William were married there in Brewton three years later. Susan was born in 1865 and her father's name was Joshua Hammac. Please let me know if there is any information you may need to find this person's death record. I would be forever grateful if you even tried to look. Thank you!!!!! I have checked St. Michael's and St. John's on G street with no luck. What other cemeteries would be candidates for burial at that time? Can anyone else suggest any other sources that I may search to find info on burial permits, cemeteries, etc. during this time? Any help is appreciated. Regards, Mary Ellen
