If I remember correctly there is a large gap in the dates for the Pensacola newspaper ... between 1905 and 1954. A gap means there are no microfilmed copies of the newspapers for that period. I believe UWF did have some hard copy (bound) newspapers in the 19-teens but certainly not a complete run. Ms. Sheila Lilia Martin ((( >^..^< )))
I checked with our society librarian and he is going to find out if any of our books are available for interlibrary loan. He has to check with our Genealogical Society President and also with the public library since we have combined our genealogy collection with the collection of the library. If I find anything out, I will let you know. -- Ginny Deagan - Pensacola, FL Tom & Ginny Deagan's Home Page: http://www.pcola.gulf.net/~gdeagan An Index to the Genealogical Web Pages that I have Online: http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~vgdeagan/index.htm My New England, New York and Pennsylvania Families Escambia Co. I don't know, but I'll do it if I whenever I go over there again. Child care is my problem (you can't bring a 9mo old to a library). I found several books that were listed with the West Florida Genealogical Society that I am interested in. Are these books available through inter library loan? I want to see if any of these Family histories are linked to my ancestors. Thanks.

Will the UWF do obit lookups for a fee?
Acting on a "hunch" today I called Barrancas National Cemetery and found my Nicholas and Catherine Gathleny, along with 3 sons... 2 of whom were among the " missing" 3 children of the couple! the cemetery cites a burial of a FJ Gathelyn (spelled incorrectly) son of Sgt. Gathelyn who died on Feb 11, 1877. Notes say Fred was believed to be the first name of the child. Leo died Oct 19, 1899 My question is..... according to the official FL Vital Statistics site, it says they have "limited" deaths since 1877. Another site (not the official site) said they only had deaths since 1917. I'm sending for the 1900 death of Nicholas in the morning.... but how best to go about getting information on the 1877 and 1899 deaths? Anyone have any experience in getting certs that old? Are they microfilmed by LDS (I can't use online catalog with webtv, it won't work), or available at the WFGL? Thanks in advance. yes the public Library has them ( PNJ )with the exception of a few years....I know one of the yers is 1926.and you have to go to uwf for that pat
Does anyone know what info would be on a 1923 death certificate? First, did they have them back then? Would it list the person's parents? Birthplace, etc?
PNJ newspapers are avail on microfiche at UWF on the second floor. They have decent microfilm readers/printers. The collection is nicely organized. I am not sure if the West Florida Regional (the public library) has them or not. ----- Original Message ----- From: Maura <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Tuesday, March 28, 2000 12:56 PM Subject: [FLESCAMB] Re: obits etc > Hi Marilyn, > > Yes, I have gotten one of those death certs, which is what led me to the > FL censuses. Hi Marilyn, Yes, I have gotten one of those death certs, which is what led me to the FL censuses. I"m working on obtaining obits for those I have found. I had been advised to contact a Harold Bonifay, as listed on one of the Escambia county pages.... and had asked in my original post if anyone here thought that was a good way to obtain these. Unfortunately haven't gotten any answer to that yet. Are the Pensacola News Journal microfilms available at the West Fl . Regional Library? http://www.rootsweb.com/~lastbern/passenger.htm CANARY ISLAND MIGRATION TO LOUISIANA 1778-1783
Hi -- First thank you Mona very much! Those are the families, but I have two questions ..... You say you "found" that info ... where? Is it your family? It seems to be mostly from census and some mariage records... If it's not your family, how do I contact the person who submitted it wherever you got it, as it has several mistakes in it ? (I have researched the McGLINNs in Brooklyn very well, and Catherine was born there on 9 Jan 1842, she married Nicholaas GATHLENY on 10 June 1863, and their first child Anne was born in Brooklyn 18 Nov 1864. I don't know where "Rhode Island" is coming from in these records, unless it's a mangled version of "Long Island".)
