<PRE>Bagdad, Florida, was one of the largest exporters or virgin timber during the 1800s.
Yes, that is where my gggrandfather got the lumber, in Bagdad, or so I have been told. Someone also told me that he worked for (and I am not sure if this is the correct name or spelling) Algee-Sullivan Lumber Co. Nancy
Why did anyone from Europe go all the way around Fl to land in Pennsacola or Mobile? Any ideas appreciated, I have been stumpted by this a long time. Sandra
I've wondered the same things myself, why would my gggrandfather sail from Fiume, Austria (now Rijeka, Croatia) to Pensacola when there were all the well known east coast ports that were much larger. I have heard it said that he hauled lumber between the places, but still........there is lumber on the eastern coast also! Nancy
Ask your librarian, they are the ones who arrange interlibrary loan. They have a source to look up to see what issues are avialable where. Most early newspapers are on microfilm now. I was at the Library of Congress last summer and had a ball reading early Mobile and Pensacola papers. I would look in the old newspaper records if I could, but I live in California and I doubt if those old records would be online. Am hoping to be able to make a trip east next year and would like to take a detour on the way home and go through Pensacola. Thanks for the info. If you look in the Pensacola and Mobile newspapers for that time period. They mention ships that arrive at their ports. <PRE>I'll be glad to - but it will be this evening - I'm headed to work right now. EW
Morning Happy Friday, Would the person who has the Milton Cemetery records book, please look for a Sarah Baker? She died between 1870 and 1880. Also a John Royalty who died Nov 1866. Thank you, Helen
No, I'm not related, but I have a cemetery book for Santa Rosa County, Florida. It list the following: Milton Cemetery, Milton, Santa Rosa County, Florida 1. Emma May Boghigh (Schambeau) Wife of L. P. Schambeau Oct 3, 1872 - Oct 20, 1892 A precious one from us has gone A voice we loved is stilled A place is vacant in our home Which never can be filled. 2. Catherine May (Boghigh), Mother Wife of F. A. Boghigh June 10, 1831 - July 26, 1905 On that bright imortal shore We shall meet to part no more 3. Baby grave with broken marker 4. Capt. Francis A. Boghigh A native of Austria May 27, 1807 - Nov. 8, 1884 Sacred grave to thee we trust this precious pile of worth dust, keep it safe o sacred tomb till wife and children ask for room.
I can't answer the question about ships records - other than to day that I have inquired and been told that they don't exist. Do you know where some of these people are buried in Milton, FL?
