    3. This is a letter I got a while back that I am not going to retype. Bill, Thank you VERY much for sending me the John FLEMING pension records !! Attached, find a collection of misc. FLEMING records which I thought might prove interesting/helpful to you, provided you didn't already have them. Please note the 1813 marriage bond for my ancestors - Jacob GANTZ and Eliza FLEMING, dau. of John FLEMING, the bondsman. Since my John was alive in 1813 it would seem that the John that was indicated to have been pensioned and died before 1790 was not "my" John. :( Well, back to digging in the records.... Please let me know any further thoughts you might have or records you might come across on area FLEMINGs and I will do the same. Thanks again ! Kerns, Ph. D., Heritage Books, Inc., Bowie, MD, 1992: p. 28-29 Constable Bonds (1816-1820) Frederick County constable bonds for the 1816-1850 era are preserved in three volumes. Constables were bound, along with their bondsmen, to the Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, in the sum of $500. Bonding was important because constables handled money and goods through numerous dealings with public matters. The bond stated that the constable "...shall well and truly discharge the duties of the said office of Constable, within the said County, and pay and satisfy all sums of money and tobacco by him received, by virtue of any process, to the person or persons to whom the same are due..." Constable: Andrew FLEMMING; Date: Sept. 2, 1816; Bond: $500. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- "Frederick County Virginia Marriage Bonds", by Joan D.
