Bill, Charlotte, et al; My FLEMING is also James FLEMING, Jr b 31 Mar 1773 Hampshire Co, VA; d 11 Oct 1846 in Flemington, (W)VA; m 16 Mar 1797 Elizabeth WELCH b 29 Nov 1777; d 15 Mar 1847. Her parents were Sylvester WELCH will d 30 Sep 1800, prob 19 Feb 1810 in Hampshire Co and wife Jemima CARROLL (dau of Dempse CARROLL and Frances SANFORD). I have James Jr's father as the James FLEMING b 1744; d 1823 who with wife Ann bought and sold land in Hampshire Co in the late 1700s. Some say Ann was a JOHNSON, but I've not seen any record to verify that. I believe a WFT CD sez James parents were William & Margaret... Children of James, Jr. and Elizabeth include: - Patrick 1800-1872 m Mary C. BARTLETT - Mary 1806-a1850 m Samuel BARTLETT - Sarah 1809-1854 m John H BARTLETT (my ancestors) - Minor S 1812-1888 m Martilda Ann BARTLETT - Johnson C 1815-1900 m Mary BARTLETT and others... I'm interested in finding more early records on this family, and where they came from - I'll have to study Bill's info - unless the 1782 James FLEMING moved from Hardy back to the remaining Hampshire Co, then we've got 2 of them at least and my James, Jr. wouldn't come of age until 1791, and his wife was Elizabeth not Ann. I had always presumed there was just the James, Sr & Ann, until James, Jr was of age, and that there was only this one James FLEMING family in the area. I believe these 2 James' are the ones in the Harrison Co 1810 census, but I don't know when they moved... Like others, I'm still looking for records which would show where they came from before Hampshire Co...
