I am seeking information on John Fleming of Mitchellstown, County Cork, Ireland, who died in 1823 in Mitchellstown. His wife's name was Margaret, and they married about 1810 and had 7 children, the last being my direct ancestor, Michael Fleming, born in 1823 shortly before the death of his father John. I have no information on the Fleming family prior to 1810. John and Margaret had the following children: Mary, Ellen, Elizabeth, John, Bridget, and Michael. I have limited information on some of the children, and fairly good information on Michael and his descendants. Michael came to the USA via Canada about 1840, to Boston, then to Louisiana (New Orleans and Donaldsonville) before settling with his wife and Children in Burlington, Iowa. Some of Michael's descendants still live in and around Burlington. Several of the women (in different generations) became Roman Catholic Nuns, most of them joining the order of the Sisters of the Charity of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The BVM's have a mother house in Dubuque, Iowa, and 2 or three are buried there. One is still in active service (in her 70's) in Maywood, near Chicago IL.
