Notes Sir Sandford Flemming was Chief Engineer of Northern Railway (1857) and Canadian Pacific Railway (1871.) He surveyed rail routes through Kicking-horse, Eagle, and Rogers Pass. One of his engravings was used on the first Canadian postage stamp (3 penny beaver.) He developed the concept of Standard Time and promoted the use of the 24 hour clock.
