John Fleming b. 1776 is part of my line which descends from John Fleming b. 1688 who immigrated to DE abt. 1712 and who lived in MD. My patriarch, James? Fleming, was born circa 1760-70 MD. We have proof that John b. 1776 was born in NC, not SC. My Flemings apparently migrated to NC after leaving MD and before moving to GA abt. 1786. We have other evidence to suggest this apart from John being born their. Our line (including John Fleming b. 1776) is genetically distinct and completely unrelated to the SC Flemings. I know this may appear to be "sacrilege" among John b. 1776 researchers. There are a number of researchers who think John b. 1776 was a grandson of John b. 1685. This error appears to stem from Lee Reese's book, "John Fleming: Carolina to California." written years ago. She gave no sourcing for this information and has several other provable errors as well. Also, the John b. 1685 line has been well documented and his researchers do not claim John b. 1776. In fact, there records show that John, son of James b. abt. 1721 died about 1816. John C.
